I know this is an old bug, but there never happened something, so i better post this reminder !

When trying to do fast forward or rewind on VBR coded mp3's the empeg is not able to do it ...

Are you sure? About a year ago, FF and FR didn't work at all. Now at least FF works sometimes, or is this just by coincidence?

Hugo said they'd made progress resolving this. Is this why FF sometimes works ?

yes you are right, FF DOES work sometimes, but not too often ...
I don't know if this is an improvement over past situations, because i used FF and REW *very* seldom before i got my steering wheel remote ...
What i do know for sure is that it is not worj´king now :-)

There won't be a lot of improvement in VBR handling until we switch codecs; out implementation using the ARM MP3 codec handles VBR in a much better way than Xaudio does.

No date on this yet, but it will coincide with WAV support, WMA support (probably) and AAC support (maybe).

It would definitely be nice to be able to fast forward with VBR files. Usually when I press FF, it actually goes backwards, which can be confusing.

My main gripe with VBR files is that the current position in the track is not saved and restored properly. Would it not be possible to store the actual current byte offset in the file? That way you're pretty much guaranteed that you'll be in same place when you power on again.

The new VBR code is better at this, doing the proper interpolation stuff.

We prefer to store times, as these are transferrable between codecs; for example, the WMA codec can't seek to a point in the file, only a timecode.
