Why would this happen:

There is absolutely no noise when using the player...however...

when using the tuner there is definately some engine whine coming through the speakers....it gets louder when i put the lights on ...and even louder when i put the a/c on

the system is installed in a miata and has a power antenna that operates automatically when i turn the unit on

Any opinions/solutions/ideas!!!??

thanks

ed

Someone else reported this, too.

I'd suggest you contact support, as I think that it was decided that the other one was defective.

Or, rather, that that was assumed to be the case after the antenna was ruled out as a source of the ground loop. Try disconnecting the antenna from the tuner unit and see if that helps.

I think the suggestion in the other thread from Muzza about disconnecting the antenna lead is your best next step. The additional ground via the antenna's coax cable might be responsible here.

Assuming it turns out to be related to the additional ground, I wonder how many more ground loop problems will come to the surface once others start installing PCAs tuner kits?

I tried that and there was no change in the noise (it still existed)..then I disconnected the tuner unit itself and the noise disappeared..which i would have expected...but it did eliminate the possibility that there was something wrong with the input stage of the HU..i hope!

Oh, yes. Make sure that, if you're using it, the tuner extension ``cable'' is wired straight-through. Apparently, some were miswired and I suppose it's possible that the ground wire could be one of those miswired wires.
