Why would this happen:

There is absolutely no noise when using the player...however...

when using the tuner there is definately some engine whine coming through the speakers....it gets louder when i put the lights on ...and even louder when i put the a/c on

the system is installed in a miata and has a power antenna that operates automatically when i turn the unit on

Any opinions/solutions/ideas!!!??

thanks

ed

You must be getting some interference from part of the radio. try disconnecting the antenna and see if it goes away. Naturally you won't get any radio signal but it'll check.
The antenna usually has a signal core and a ground shield. You're probably getting the ground loop through there.

I still think this is coming from a amplified antenna, that has not got a power feed. This is NOT a power-extendable antenna, which is different. Which do you have?

Removing the antenna from the radio will just make things worse.

In another thread, someone suggested that you contact support because it might possibly indicate a faulty tuner module. Have you done so?

to be honest the reception is terrible....signal strength was better on the original stereo..what i am looking to do is install my old sony cd/mp3 player into the AUX inputs and use the tuner off that head unit then eventually hook up an XM radio system....that will pretty much take up the entire dash!! ...not to mention the video possibilities...then if that works ok just auction off the tuner on e-bay or something

thanks for your feedback

Most people find that the tuner is as good or nearly so as any other car-stereo tuner. The fact that your reception is terrible and you have this ground-loop issue would seem to indicate that you might have a bad one.

Have you contacted support?
