Anyone out there actually using emptool?

You betcha. But I only have a MkI, so I don't know about the ethernet.

Actually, while I'm here, I might relate a little interesting thing about trying to use emptool with the empeg-car USB driver with UHCI on an SMP machine. It seems to me that when the empeg sends data to the computer, the first packet (or block, or whatever) arrives OK, but the second one arrives so quickly that the interrupt goes to the other CPU, which has not yet figured out that the first packet has arrived, and things go downhill from there. My workaround is to sit there and watch while emptool tries to get the database, if it is not working, I go to a root window and do "echo 2 > /proc/irq/x/smp_affinity" and everything proceeds as normal.

It's a bit of a pain, but it works, and I'm prepared to put up with it for the time being for the sake of using USB rather than serial. I'll wait until the proper 2.4 kernels come out, and if the strange behaviour hasn't magically gone away, then I guess I'll have to try and rectify it.

If anybody else was in the same situation, and has fixed things, I'd like to hear about it.

Richard.

Yep, it works fine with Ethernet.

Now that the Emptool source has been released, we expect you guys to both fix the problems you're describing as well as port this puppy to the Mac. You can have that done by tomorrow, right?

Well, the linuxPPC port is done (assuming it works) took about five minutes!

That's cheating! I meant a MacOS version!

Damn, that'll teach me a lesson about giving proper specification documents to my programmers.

Only to twenty. Or so I've heard.

The bug being described here is either in the USB driver which has always been released with source or in the Linux kernel itself however.

I may not be speaking on behalf of empeg above :-)
