finally, after waiting for a year and a half, not only have i been invited to order an empeg, i can actually afford one. i am planning to go for a 12 gig with the green face.

the unit is going into a 97 miata (mx-5 for hugo) and playing through a pioneer head unit. hope to post some pics as soon as i get it installed.

if i order tonight, how soon should it ship? anyone have arrival times for the east coast?

i can finally change my signature to one with my serial number and model :)

oh, man I'm jealous. That's the exact model I'm getting. Hmmm, Philly, eh? I might have to drive a few hours north and pay you and your little empeg a visit...

It is also the model and color I ordered. Can we get some percentages on player capacity and color of sales?

I have a feeling, and this is just a stab in the dark here, that this particular model will be pretty popular. For one, the green face provides alot of contrast, and it's a fairly attractive color that goes with alot of cars.

I also think the 12 GB disc size is the most economical (at least in my price range).

Isn't the price difference after 12GB because after 12 they start to use 2 HD's?

Anyway, I just hope to have mine as soon as possible

FYI - the 18GB still uses a single drive.

Hmmm, I thought so. I wonder why there's a bigger price difference between the 12 and 18 than the 12 and 6.

This increase is probably directly related to the prices of the hard drives. Hard drives prices are always increased reletive to the lower models as you increase capacity. I doubt empeg makes any more money on the bigger drives than they do on the smaller ones.

Oh I understand that. Rob said that earlier, but it just doesn't make sense to me why the price difference between 12 and 18 GB, and 6 and 12 GB would be so different. It's not as much a pick on empeg but HD manufacturers in general.

That reminds me. I forgot what type of HD's you guys use in the empeg.. What is it again?

I doubt empeg makes any more money on the bigger drives than they do on the smaller ones.

Well, there are some other factors involved...

Since Empeg isn't a big laptop manufacturer like Dell or Gateway, they can't source the bigger drives in large quantities without paying more. And they can't even GET large quantities of some drives that we could get more easily as onesie-twosie buyers. So even though there are 25-gb IBM Travelstars available, the current Empeg product line doesn't have them (although it might in the future when the availability loosens up). And as far as margins are concerned, Empeg's margins are the same percentage across their product line.

No. No, you are not allowed. Unless you use the special handshake.

Should ship very early next week, and arrive the following day if the customs people play nicely.

The closer you get to the leading edge, the more expensive it becomes. Therefore 18Gb drives are rather expensive at the moment, but in a year they'll be a basic commodity.
