Anyone know anything about Volvo S60R installs?

Of course not, since the S60R isn't out yet, but it should be the same as the current S60 models. I think it might end up coming with the upgraded stereo by default, which is too bad, so keep that in mind if you have an answer. But any suggestions are appreciated.
The only things I've found so far (and I haven't done a lot of looking) are this description of a V70/S60 stereo install, which indirectly references this fascia adapter, but it looks different than the pictures of the S60R's dash that I've seen.
And for those of you that might be interested in the S60R in general....

Good luck with a Volvo S60R install. Yeah, I read that guy's V70 ICE install documentation and I must say it's insane. It's too bad they don't make 'em like they did in 2000. My 2000 V70 install was probably the easiest thing my installer had ever done... ever.
Keep an eye on Crutchfield for a wiring harness. With that, all you'll need is the custom facia. If you ask me, you should try to shove an empeg and a second HU in there (for radio and CD). Hey, you've got the space, right? If you're not worried about the car's resale value (which i'm sure you are), just hack some mounting brackets into it to accomodate the double din opening you'll hack into the single din facia.
Good luck and please post pics!

Actually, from looking at those photos you linked, Micheal's pictures of the fascia adapter "installed" looks like it snapped right in to the factory dash of the S60R you linked. I don't think they look different at all.

To me, it looks like the fasica I linked curves back at the edges while the S60R has a flat fascia. Are you seeing it differently?
It also looks the wrong shape, but I think that the picture of the S60R's dash is fisheye distorted a little, so I could be wrong about that.

Looking at some other pictures, and having taken a test drive of a T5 this afternoon, I think Tony's right. However, I'm wondering what the keypad to the left of the radio is. It wasn't on the T5 I drove (there was a tall pocket there), but it is shown in some of the pictures of the S60's dash in the non-R pamphlet. I'm guessing it has to do with the upgraded stereo. Anyone have any ideas? I just don't want to have to rip any more out of the dash than just the stereo in order to get the empeg installed (assuming I buy the car).

Haha, making your S60R purchase decision based on if it can fit the empeg is like making an empeg purchase decision based on ... hell, I don't know what. Point is, get the S60R and worry about the empeg later. Where there's a will, there's a way. And with 290 Horsepower behind it, you'll reach the solution even faster. (R = 290HP, right?).

It's 300HP.
You might feel that way, but I'm basing my car purchasing decision largely on how easily I can fit my empeg in it, or rather, whether it's possible or not. It's starting to look like the Volvo might be the easiest of my choices, though. I would like to know what the hell that keypad is about, regardless. I might just wander over to the dealership late tonight and see if any on-lot models they have have it. If I can see how it's labelled, I'm hoping I'll be able to tell what it is.
In reality, I'm more concerned with ordering a car that I've never had the opportunity to drive, especially since I'll most likely order it with some pretty non-standard options, which makes it less likely that they'll allow me to not purchase it if it turns out to be a dog. Certainly the S60 T5 is not the car it appears to be on paper.

Well, how about a V70R. ARen't they making those again? Man, I'd sell my soul many times over to have a V70R.
But yes, ordering a new car must be terrifying. I prefer to buy used (off lease) so I can just test it out before I hop in the drivers seat. Good luck. I hope to see the S60R at a meet some day!

Okay. I went to the dealership and none of the S60s or V70s on lot had that keypad. Which is somewhat helpful in that that means that it's an obscure option. I found this picture of the S60 dash that includes that keypad, and I think it might be a cell phone keypad. There is some sort of cell phone integration option available. I didn't figure that it would involve being able to dial from your dash, but it looks like that might be the case. Regardless, I won't be getting that option, so it looks like I might be all clear there.
Whew.
Oh, by the way .... Not that you care.

That was the first thing i thought of when i saw the pic. A cell phone. I bet it can have a speakerphone cellphone. I can see the green and red start and end buttons on the dash. So don’t get the cell phone option But I still see a lot of dash hacking in the future for you

Actually, that article I linked in the first post makes the actual physical install sound pretty easy, especially since they link to a replacement dash piece. More than anything, I was worried about what was going to happen to that keypad, but now that I'm pretty sure it's a non-issue, I'm much happier.

Yea, i went back and re-read your first post and saw that replacement fascia, i'm sure the empeg would sit quite nicely inside that dash.

Hell, maybe you could get two head units by using that replacement dash cover. Is another happy Volvo + empeg + Alpine user about to come forth?

Nah. I've very occasionally wanted a CD player in the car, but maybe once every couple of months.
Does anyone make an in dash CD player and nothing else with front panel controls and RCA outputs?
