So if jemplode works with the Rio central would the jemplode feature to sync two empeg's work with one central and one empeg ?

Actually, I think 36 was the last jEmplode to work with the RioCentral. Without having one myself, I am not able to do any testing on the RioCentral, so I can't debug any problems that may arise. However, any features that are supported by the Empeg should be supported by the RioCentral.

So the current versions don't work with the central or are you just not sure ?

Tony tried with 43 or 44 and it did some weird stuff (didn't show any tunes, and he accidentally started to sync -- turns out it had marked all his tunes as deleted, so it started to actually sync that it deleted his tunes -- fortunately he hit cancel and only lost a couple of tunes). You're welcome to try it out, but I think something weird's going on. If you are a little daring, if you could put your RioCentral on a public IP address, I would be happy to connect to it and try to get jEmplode working again (no guarantees on maintaining your collection, but I could give reasonable assurances that it would probably be OK -- doesn't exactly give you a warm fuzzy, does it ).

I'm using Jemplode version 41 with my Rio Central and it seems to work fine. But then again, the only thing I use it for is to modify titles. I've downloaded titles before (not exactly sure if it was this version or not) to try and squirt them to my riot but the titles, albums and everything didn't seem to show up the correct way on the Riot so I figured it was easier just to rerip the cd's as I wanted to listen to them since I used the thing at work and coveniently can rip cd's as I work.
However, if you could sync a central and an empeg I might then have the motivation to try and get one of those things.

I have a RIO Central (only 1,149.00 now by the way).
I would like a RIO Car BUT would need to be able to sync it with the RIO Central.

That's that opposite problem I have. I really want to get a central but I want to sync it with the empeg.
I saw the price drop I wonder if this 15% off coupon at the top of the page is any good.

How long have you had the Central ? Are there any other features you think are missing ?

I have had the Central since around April 2002 and really think it's the best thing goin' to listen to your cd collection (as I'm sure you find with the empeg). I've got five rio receivers connected to it also and wouldn't trade this setup for anything.
What is it missing? Well for one thing I still can't sync up with my Rio Riot (but that should be fixed *soon*), you can't stream the same tune to all receivers at the same time, it needs a bigger hard drive (comes with a 40GB but that is easily upgradeable; I currently have a maxtor 120GB installed), when you select a genre of music to squirt to a portable say a RIO 800 you can't randomize the tunes before you squirt so you just get the tunes that are first in line in alphabetical order. Other than that it's awesome.

Oh yeah, it's also missing a 10/100 ethernet port. It only comes with hpna and usb. Fortunately you can get a usb to ethernet adapter however it will be quite slow squirting tunes from your empeg to the Central (if it is possible).

Actually, I think it lost only one tune. I was REALLY fast on that Cancel button as soon as I saw the word "deleting" on the screen!
Thank God there's a working "Cancel" button in Jemplode!

Well, it looks like I'm the proud owner of a brand new RD100-30 ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1942858252 )
Damn, it just looked too good to pass up for $700 bucks knowing that it is upgradeable.
Has anyone tried syncing the Central with an empeg with jemplode? Does a certain version work over another?
Is $700buck too much for this thing? I figured that if I didn't like it I surely could resell it on ebay for the same price.
...and I just got the riot working with the fm modulator (a bit of fuzz though)...
Thanks
Jerz

The ethernet adaptor he needs is one of the "USB->Ethernet" dongles supported by the Rio Central, which is one of the following, according to the "About" menu:
Dlink DU-E100
Linksys USB10T
Linksys USB100TX
There might be others that work if they contain the exact same chipsets as the ones listed above. Although that's really tricky under Linux, my USB10T ended up not working because Linksys changed the chipset without changing the box or the model number. So I had to mail my USB10T to Englad so that Hugo could crack it open and determine the chipset in order to add code for it to the Central.
Anyway... those things are relatively inexpensive for anyone interested in donating one to Rob.

Well, donate is rather strong - don't let me stop you though - but I'd be happy to borrow one, or if someone could just source one for me I'd be happy!

Well...sure, if you could tell me how to give it a public address. I've got a linksys dsl router that would allow me to put it on a dmz and my dsl provider does not provide me with a static ip so if you can tell me what to do I would probably go for it.
My 30gig MK2 empeg came today so I'm just now starting to play with it. I've got some reading to do.

It should be enough to port forward port 8300 UDP and TCP to your Empeg (not sure what Linksys you have, but mine lets me do this). Then send me your router's IP address (granted it may change). You can send this info by private email ( [email protected]) and we can coordinate a time I can work on it.
Thanks

OK well Jemplode seems to be able to pull anything I want off of the central without a problem. I didn't realise that I needed to check the following boxes though to keep the tags so they'll work when I upload to the empeg:
Under Tools=>Options make sure:
1) Write ID3v2 Tags to Downloaded Files is turned ON
2) Preserve Existing Tag Frames is OFF
3) Remove ID3v1 Tags is ON
Currently it is a two step process and requires quite a few gigs on a HD since you have to download from the central to a HD then from the HD to the empeg. Drag and drop from the central to the empeg would be awesome.

Thanks for the info. The drag and drop part is what I was wondering about because I think you can do that with two empegs.

jEmplode used to be able to copy between two empegs directly, but because it was kind of hacked in, I removed it. If there's a lot of demand for it, I can add it back in.

I would want to be able to copy from the central to the empeg or just have it sync the two.

My ultimate goal is to be able to directly transfer between the Central and the Empeg, thus removing my PC from the loop completely.
Recent discussion on the Receiver/Central BBS seems to indicate that direct synching to the Empeg from the Central's USB port is not going to happen soon, so now Jemplode is our only hope for this. So if you can get that working again, I would be very happy to see it happen.
Let me detail for you where I intend to go with all this...
My car player has all of my MP3 collection on it, including tracks I ripped back in the early days of my MP3 experience. I had often wanted to re-rip the older parts of my collection with better settings, but never finished it because of the hassle factor.
When I began testing the Central, I discovered that it ripped really well, and it had enough room for me to rip my whole collection at 256kbps CBR. It was also dead-easy to do the ripping. So that's what I've done: I've now re-ripped my whole CD collection into the Central.
Next I want to hand-duplicate my Empeg's playlists (just the mood playlists, not the artist/album playlists) onto the Central, and also take that opportunity to transfer some files from the empeg to the Central that weren't in my CD collection originally. Then totally organize the Central so that it's completely perfect: every tag is right, every track is ripped perfectly, etc.
When that's done, I will put more storage into the car player, wipe it clean, and do one big Central->Carplayer synch, making them finally identical. (This is where I think Jemplode would come in handy, since I would be able to do it without the files doing intermediate stops on the PC.) From then on, I would be able to rip into the Central and transfer to the carplayer every time, maintaining this identical list.

Of course, at this point your Central's hard disk is guaranteed to suffer a fatal head crash...

My ultimate goal is to be able to directly transfer between the Central and the Empeg, thus removing my PC from the loop completely.
I would order a Rio Central right now if I could do that but I would be just as happy if I could connect both units to my network and just hit sync in emplode or jemplode.
My car player has all of my MP3 collection on it, including tracks I ripped back in the early days of my MP3 experience. I had often wanted to re-rip the older parts of my collection with better settings, but never finished it because of the hassle factor.
That's the same situation I have. Plus I never put any of my pink floyd stuff on there due to the gaps between songs (I know the central wouldn't solve that problem)
Another problem I have now since I got the HP digital music center is I have some cd's on there that aren't on the empeg and some that are on the empeg that aren't on the HP and some that aren't on either (and the riot has almost nothing on it because REAL SUCKS). It would be great to just pop the cd into something when I get a new one then be able to sync everything else with it.
