Hello,

I'm currently building a PC for my car and like the way my empeg is removable. I want to do the same thing with the PC but am trying to avoid fabricating the chassis and sled. I was wondering if anyone has or knows where to aquire an older car stereo that is removable like the empeg and has it's matching docking sled so that I could simply gut it and use it for my own applications. I've looked around to the best of my ability and found only one lead but the price tag after shipping from another country made it an unattractive option. I felt kind of uncomfortable spending over a hundred and fifty dollars for a stereo simply to tear it apart.

Any information would be greatley appreciated,

Daniel.

Check ebay periodically. I bought one off ebay that I use for a spare empeg sled. I got the whole stereo and sled for $30 and the stereo still works (seiko CD receiver.)

...also try asking around at your local installers and car wreckers. Most old pullouts are often considered as junk now.

Thanks for the input guys. I revised my seach criteria on ebay from removable to pullout and got a couple hits. I wasn't too familiar with the proper term... heh, pullouts are a bit before my time

Woah, following your search criteria on EBay, check out this unit. Not only is it a pullout but it has batteries so it can keep playing when removed. Hm............. I feel another whack-ass project idea coming on.

heh, that certainly is an oddity. Do you have any specific application ideas? I can't seem to think of any off hand.

Check my post in Projects..... Just another idea for me to let fall flat, but maybe someone out there can bring it to market and turn it into a mad money making scheme that I can be jealous of.
