As I mentioned in the review already I have a little problem with the colour of the display.

I ordered an amber Mk2. But the amber of the display doesn't match the amber of my car's dash-light. The Mk2's amber seems to be going to yellow/green a bit. Now my thought was - just mix up a bit red, then it would get better. So I took a transparent red sheet and covered the display with it. Hit! The colour is exactly what I need (Ok - maybe would have been better to order the red diplay than the amber. Now I know). But of course the brightness is suffering now.

So I'm wondering how to adjust the brightness (As far as I can remember I read something about it in the BBS but I couldn't find it at the moment). I couldn't find anything for setting up in the menu of the Mk2 and not in emplode, too. (Maybe something for the FAQ - cause as I am an average user and wondering about that other will, too. Especially when there's a connector for dash-lights)

Is the Mk2 pre-adjusted at the highest level of brightness at delivery or could someone set it brighter?

Maybe I'm going to order a new colour as soon as Rob tells us that the new antireflective coating is ready. I think that would be the best.

Hmm I didn't find the item dimmer... I'll take a look at it when ready with sync.

You won't find it when the player is away from the car. 'Dimmer' (I believe it's called dimmer) is not available when the player is fed from the external PS.
Also, 'in car' the dimmer settings depend on the head-light sensor: anything set with 'lights ON', will be remembered when the lights are on, etc.

(Don't panic when the screen is black when you access the dimmer setting menu. It may be turned down. Just keep increasing intensity, or turn head-lights on/off . . . )

hmmm... currently I'm thinking about how to get a different display which is also bright enough in the cheapest way...

So it comes to my mind to make it for myself. I'm thinking about getting some plexiglass then cut it into the correct shape and drill the holes for the screws and buttons into it. Then get a transparent red sheet (not too dark) 'cause additional to the plain display's colour it gives exactly that amber that I'd need in my car. Then also cut the transparent red into the correct shape and mount this whole thing (with either the transparent red in front of or behind the plexiglass)

Of course it wouldn't provide such a high quality as the original display does and I really don't wanna be in concurrency with the guys@empeg. It's just a thought I wanna share.

I don't know how it would look. And of course it wouldn't be antireflective - but maybe I can get some roughened plexiglass - then maybe it's antireflective, too (But then I don't know how good the display would look...).

Your opinions to that?

In case you didn't know, the coloured plate that came with the empeg is coated with stuff to control any electronic interference that may come from the player. When the plate is removed, all the nice radiation and interference will escape the player and screw with your cell phone and other goodies (and maybe other peoples cell phones and stuff???)

But since you were on this BBS before I ever came here, you probably already knew that right?

Maybe I misunderstood. Were you planning on adding the red sheet and plexiglass to the existing display or replace it altogether?

So I took a transparent red sheet and covered the display with it

Sounds like he just covered it with celophane or something.

I didn't know that. But it's worth a try i think. I'll see what happens with the interference.

Currently I already added the red sheet only - But now it's a bit too dark

After some trying around I made a display. I took a transparent plastic and a red-transparent book cover, put it in shape of the origin faceplate and mounted the whole thing.

It was exactly the car's dash-colour. But in direct sunlight it's too dark. Then I gave away the red-transparent. The colour was something like green/blue and very bright and to see even in direct sunlight. But it didn't fit the dash-colour. So I ended up in replacing my selfmade display with the origin one and I'm quite happy with it now even though it's not exactly the dash's colour.

And let all that unshielded RF out into the world. Tsk Tsk. Probably interfered with Radio Free Europe, and now there will be uprisings and revolutions all over the place. Thousands of people killed and maimed, and it's all your fault!

I dunno, Tee -- we buy you a book, send you to school, and whaddya do? You eat the bindings...

Do ya see my sunglasses - My eyes are protected from the RF and my cloths are anti-RF-coated and wont let anything bad to my body. And I don't need to switch on the headlights of my car at night, cause it's glowing
