I think enough people have acknowledged the existence of this problem to post it here. For those that aren't familiar with it, the player exhibits random brief moments of silence during WAV file playback.

Any plans to fix the wave droput issue? That would make a lot of folks happy.

Yes, we threw away the audio layer and replaced it with a new filter graph network. This is too big to back-port into the 2.0 branch so it won't show up until after 2.0-final.

This could be sooner than you think.

Based on what Rob said, my guess is that the fix exists in the 3.0 alpha versions. The alphas work, but they aren't completely stable like 2.0 is. And the alphas aren't likely to get finished up, unfortunately.

Since you've got only 1 post on the BBS, I'm assuming you're asking that question because you don't yet own one of these players, and you're doing research looking for a car player that will play uncompressed WAV files for you.

I have to say that, even though yes it will do this task, I would not recommend using it for this task, whether or not that dropout problem is fixed.

The reason is: Much of the player's design is based around the idea that MP3 files are small, so they can be easily cached, and therefore the player's hard disks stay spun down most of the time. When you play WAV files (or FLAC files for that matter), the hard disks are in constant operation, which causes some issues.

WAV file playback on the Empeg is great for brief things like frequency tests, but for daily music listening, it's much better at the job of playing MP3s.

Or better yet if you are moving to 3.0 alpha just use FLAC. Hard drives might still stay spun up but the Empeg should be able to keep up with playing them easier...
