Hi, I recently installed Brians button kit (Thanks again Brian!!) and was wondering if the left, right and down button LED's could be replaced by triangle shape LED's instead. The round, top button should stay round shape LED.

I think the triangle shape LED would make the thing look a bit cooler since it would fit the shape of the button much better.

I was looking through my standard suppliers and could find lots of triangle LED's but not white. Anyone has a source for that, or can even just confirm they exist?

Even if they don't exist, you can shape standard round ones if you are careful. Use heavy sand paper to take the majority of the body down, and then polish it.

Filing cylindrical LEDs to be triangular in shape might be a better bet overall thinking about it. To make triangular LEDs fit properly they'd have to be mounted in a particular orientation and that dictates where the LED leads must be.

I just bought 200 5mm round 5000mcd white LEDs from a company in Hong Kong - they are between £0.50-£1 each here, got them for £0.15!!

They seem to have everything so it might be worth a try. Email is [email protected] - don't think they have a website but they are totally legit and don't mind small orders - the postage is pretty cheap from HK.

I got a few keyring LED torches for £1.75 each - everybody wants one and I have nearly got rid of the 10 I bought.

How about UV leds? They scramble your eyes so it might not be a good idea to point them towards you but I thought they would make interesting interior lighting for the riceboys. If you paint parts of your trim with those UV security pens it would light up quite nicely when you switched the LEDs on.

Thanks, thats fairly cheap stuff, but I doubt there are any triangle white LED's on the market at all, any source I check doesnt have them so I will make them myself.

UV LED's wont work well, I tried that, there is no fluorescent (?) material the the buttons plastic, they just appear very dark. What looks more promising are the 'neon' type lenses from Darkstorm, they have material in them which glows when UV light is applied. I attach a bad picture which gives you an idea since I have just tested that.

Im thinking bout putting two UV LED's at each left right end of the lens so they are covered by the facia and the light is emitted onto the lens and collected by the lens to make the lens glow. Maybe it looks shitty, I dont know yet.

BTW, I always have a keyring 'money checker' with me which is no more than a small UV LED, to check materials whereever I go to see if the looks cool and can be used for some UV/Blacklight playing ) This is how I made this pic as well.

I was thinking about using the UV LEDs for general internal lighting (although I wasn't going to do it myself!), but as long as the light isn't thrown out of the unit it should look pretty nice with a neon lens.

From the source mentioned above I think they are £15 for 100 - about 1/5 the cost from a regular retailer.
