Is that one a theatrical release right now or is it available for video rental? I'd love to see it, I thought those other two movies were great.

I'm guessing theatrical release - I haven't heard of it before, and I'm sure I would have noticed.

Both Lock Stock& and Snatch had me in hysterics. Guy Ritchie has the potential to become one of the 'great' directors if he keeps making movies of such calibre. He needs to avoid directing 'wife' projects though, although I didn't see 'it' (can't remember the name), I heard that it sucked.

Is actually on video. It was released in 2001. Apparently in Europe mostly. It has a lot to do with soccer, so most americans wouldn't get a lot of it. Having played for 13 years, though, I thought it was histerical. I rented it from Blockbuster because it was a Guy Ritchie flic.

In this one, he was the supervising producer, he didn't write it, like he did Lock Stock and Snatch. Swept Away was the Madonna flic. Gag. The Hire: Star was the other Madonna flic, but apparently it was a much better movie.

The Hire was/is BMW's pet film project. They get big-name filmmakers to write and produce a short film. The series revolves around a getaway-type driver who is hired by various people, played by Clive Owen. The only other requirement to the directors is that the movie feature a BMW automobile. One of them didn't even feature a car chase, only a slow-moving tail.

By and large, they've been very interesting and entertaining, with the possible exception of (you guessed it) the Guy Ritchie/Madonna one. It just doesn't stack up to the rest. For one thing, it tries to be a comedy, and it just doesn't quite work, IMO. Then add to that the fact that Madonna simply cannot act, and you've got a recipe for disaster. Okay, it wasn't a disaster, but I attribute that as much to Clive Owen as to Guy RItchie's direction.

If you haven't seen them, I'd suggest you check them out. They're very cool. BTW, they're directed by John Frankenheimer (almost his last film ), Ang Lee, Kar-Wai, Wong, Guy Ritchie, Alejandro González Iñárritu, John Woo, Tony Scott, and Joe Carnahan, and variously feature such actors as Don Cheadle, F. Murray Abraham, Dennis Haysbert, Ray Liotta, Robert Patrick, Gary Oldman, Danny Trejo, Maury Chaykin, Stellan Skarsgård, Lois Smith, Mickey Rourke, and Forest Whitaker. The project was actually conceived by David Fincher, too, and was produced by him, and, for the most recent ones, also Ridley Scott.

I said it appeared to be a better movie based on the reviews they both got. Swept away got 3.5, the Hire got 7, out of a possible 10.

Oh, I'm not saying that it's bad. I just hijacked your subthread and started comparing the BMW films and said that it was probably the worst of that lot. I'm sure it's still better than Swept Away, as the less Madonna screen-time, the better, and The Hire: Star is only seven minutes long.

Sounds like my thoughts on Keanu Reeves. The less he talks, the better the movie is. (or at least more tolerable)

I wondered out loud in the pub the other night whether 8 Mile was the first film ever made that would be less annoying with Keanu Reeves in the title role. It took Roger ages to come up with Home Alone.

I tend to agree about Keanu, but have you ever seen The Gift? He actually does a not only respectable, but actually good, job portraying a violent redneck. He was convincing. Plus, you get to see Katie Holmes nekkid.

You know, that was a pretty well done movie. Kinda creepy, but it was enjoyable. And you're right, he did a pretty good job being an ass.

Edited to point out that I was talking about the GIFT, NOT 8 Mile. Which I'll not watch even on video.
