Hi,

I got some seconds in spare and just created a site dedicated to wireless connections and the Empeg. Oh, I know there still exist some threads in this board about this, but they are not put together. So I won't ask for it, I do it myself. I just finished writing a book about wireless lan and Bluetooth, so It might be not the worst idea. Please have a look at http://empeg.rowi.net an tell me if it's the right way or if I should do a rm -rf *.

regards,
Rolf

Thanks a lot for this info. What happened after this first implementation? I've seen that this all has been in 2001, maybe too early for most of the empeg-users. But since the prices are dropping and you get an adapter for less than 35 $, it may be now more interesting than it was before.

regards,
Rolf

what were you thinking about doing with bluetooth on the empeg, and are you talking about the bluetooth to serial adapter?

I recently got a usb bluetooth device to sync stuff with my t68i and it is really has some cool functions, but the t68i's battery gets hit hard by having bluetooth on.

Hi,

>what were you thinking about doing with bluetooth on the empeg
You mean, what the hell I want to do if it works? No idea :-).
Most important is to let bluetooth run ;-). I could imagine to realize a serial port via bluetooth for connectiong with hyperterm, or maybe let the bluetooth-adapter act as a WLAN-access-point (personal-area-network-profile or LAN-access-profile) at the ethernetport for connection with a bluetooth-laptop.

I am convinced about the following solution:

But, personally for me, I want the empeg to know if I am there (I always have my Nokia 6210 + Bluetooth wth me) or my girlfried wants to use my car (owns her own mobile). So the decision for playlists could be done automagically :-). Wow!
If I am more than 10 meters away from the car, my empeg would know that I'm away (so we also can close the windows, lock the door and let the music stop...

Am I crazy or do I only see what everybody uses in 10 years? Let us be the first, now :-).

> and are you talking about the bluetooth to serial adapter?
Oh, this is just an example. I would prefer a bult-in solution, not only for using on serial port (as I stated, I need the serial for GPS - but haven't got it to work yet).

>I recently got a usb bluetooth device to sync stuff with my >t68i and it is really has some cool functions, but the t68i's >battery gets hit hard by having bluetooth on.
Oops? I just got an battery-pack with built-in bluetooth for my Nokia 6210. Yes, instead of having 5 days without hanging it on the charger, I have to put it every 3 or 4 days on the charger. But I can charge it automatically in the car (freehand-talking-machine), it doesn't disturb.

What do you think about a bluetooth-phone-identifier in the empeg? You may take actions if you are in range or even not.

best regards,
Rolf

that phone identifier thing sounds cool, the stuff ive seen for phone to pc stuff seems like it is specific to the phone. Even it it doenst do a whole lot it just seem like it would be cool to do.

Exactly the phone identifier thing should work on all phones, because you needn't a specific command as in steeing your winamp and so on. To locate a bluetooth-device in your range should be easy.

But I'm a little bit sad because we both seem to be the only two guys who love such things. Thought there would be more enthusiasts, just because they all own an empeg :-).

best regards,
Rolf

Don't be too sad. I'm sure that there are more Bluetooth fans out there. They just havn't realised it yet.

What about using bluetooth to provide a gateway to the GPRS service on the phone. (Thats the only reason I bought the T68i).

You can then get real time anything in your car.

Send your current GPS coordinates to a website - so people can figure out where you are.

Receive email or voicemail notification

Play mutli-player text adventure games......

Whatever

Does your gprs work on t68i, im using Tmobile here in California (US) and maybe my settings are wrong but cant get gprs to work.

But ive seen how cool the interface between pc and phone can be , some equally cool stuff could probably be done for the empeg.

Keep in mind you need two things. The proper settings on the phone, and also GPRS data service for you PC on your account. To set up the profile on the phone, head to www.sonyericsson.com , Click on Support, type in T68i, Wap Configurator, then select your country, T-Mobile, then T-Mobile GPRS. It will ask for your number, and send the GPRS profile to the phone. computer side, I'm not sure, but call T-Mobile. They seem to actually know about advanced features on their network, unlike other providers here in the US.

Oh, i do! http://tracking.rowi.net
But this works via radio transmission, you won't need the power of an empeg for this.
