I asked Patrick if his new tuner supports weatherband, he indicated that it indeed does in hardware, but the issue is that there isn't software support for it. Anyone have ideas on supporting it? I doubt it would be in the player code, but perhaps in a mod of some other sort? hijack, perhaps?

Anyone have ideas on this or how to accomplish it?

Actually several of the Production tuners also shipped with the weather band tuners inside.

Considering the number of weather band tuners that are now in the Empeg community it might be worth begging the empeg guys to include this in a future release.

Yes I know this has been brought up befire and I know that weaterband is only available in the US, but I guy can dream can't he?

The first thing I thought was to give it a try. The second thing I thought was... wait a second... what the heck do I need weatherband for here in LA? The weather here is a bit monotonous. A nice thunderstorm would be welcome.

I have a REALLY silly question... what is Weatherband? I'd never heard of it here in UK.

It’s currently snowing here, could rain, sleet, or maybe the sun would come out. That might all take place in an hour. I'd love to have the weather band. In fact I'm not even interested in a tuner unless I can get the weather band.

I currently long for the monotony of summer. However next week it might be hot, guess I’ll never know.

It’s a frequency band set aside for a national weather forecast broadcast that gives the current and predicted local weather. In most places (maybe all) it’s a text to speak reader that speaks in a very monotone voice. It is used a lot by boaters and the aviation foke.

It basically just gives the weather 24 x 7.

Just to confirm, is it the band that ranges from 160-164 MHz???

If so, it's the frequencies used by Canada for continuous (marine and public) weather broadcast. Should be the same for US. Don't know for the rest of the world...



And I just can't seem to find any datasheet concenrning receiver model 1385 on microtune webapge. 1383 and 1384 are there though. Was the 1385 a custom made tuner?

yeah.. different areas broadcast at different freq, which is good when you are headed into an adjacent area.

I wonder if they broadcast any data streams on those freq. that would be cool.

In Canada, Environment Canada Does.. It broadcasts several kind of information as extreme cold temperature warnings, Tuhndersorm warnings, hevay snow, climatological data and such.. Environment Canada did sell a receiver called DataRadio and it interfaced directly on a printer.. You selected which kind of report you wanted and it printed if such a report is issued... Last time I saw a dataradio was 3-4 years ago, but they still send data between vocal reports, so it is certainly still in use...

Yeah, that's what I know some areas do, but not for ever area, ill check NOAA and stuff and see whats up. That would be cool if that stuff could be decoded and put on the screen.
