OK,

I checked the FAQ and the link provided shows that the power supplies are sold out. I am looking for another power supply. With Mark's docking stations I feel the need to have more on hand. I am chicken to try some misc. ones I have around so I am asking if anyone could provide a link as to where I can find one that is known to work. Better yet, anyone have one (or two) to sell?

Thanks,

Support used to have some, may be worth an email to see if they still do.

Yes,

I emailed David, but I figured I'd also see what anyone could suggest.

Thanks,

Most power supplies are very specific about what they provide. You should see a label on the power supply that indicates which of the ring (outermost, in this case) or tip (innermost) is positive and negative. Makes sure that this lines up with what the empeg needs, also as indicated by a label. Also make sure that it provides 12 volts (I believe the documentation says 11-16 volts) DC power (the DC is very important). It should be rated for at least 1A (also listed as 1000mA).

After you've found one that has those specs, then you can find if the actual plug fits in the socket properly. You specifically need one with a 2.1mm center pin and a 5.5mm outside diameter.

All of this is listed in the FAQ, actually. You've probably already read it.

I was under the impression, though, that support still had some US adapters for sale. Is that no longer true?

Not sure about support having more. I just sent David an email earlier today. Hopefully they do.

David is no longer support. If you sent it to a David-specific address, then you've sent it to the wrong place.

link provided shows that the power supplies are sold out.
Links, plural. I've got two links to US suppliers, and both of them are sold out of those times. Anyone have another US brand/location I can put in the FAQ for getting power supplies? One that we're sure works wtih two-drive players?

Heh, didn't mean it as a "correction", just disappointment at the state of things. What's the world coming to when we can't order a simple 12v power supply?

Curious what the amperage rating on the old PS-131 unit was. The first one you just linked says "12 VDC 1.25 AMP", but on the PS-131 page, that text line has been replaced with the words "Sold Out". So I dunno if it'll be close to the PS-131's performane or not...

1.25 amps is right on the edge of the spec we need. I wouldn't go for the 1 amp unit (the second one you linked) because that probably can't handle the draw the player will put on it.

My supplier can source very similar switching supplies for around US$25 or so.

And a local surplus shop here has the unversal kind, 12V-3.5A, with the right tip on the connector, for C$20 right now. I bought one, works fine, power to spare (but not wasted, since it's a switching supply). 120/240VAC, 50-60HZ. Requires a standard computer style power cable (three prong).

I have thought of offering these with the docks, but was unsure of the demand.

Cheers

I just received my first dock. Incredible work by the way. Thank you. I have another coming and if you are willing, maybe you could throw one or two in when the next ships out. Unless I find a cheaper alternative up to that point.

When I next email you for dock payment, just ask again about the power supplies in your reply. I'll try and remember to pick up a few from the surplus shop in the meanwhile, while they still have them.

Cheers

Just snag that first one i linked... it's $8. Double check with the the outer diameter of the plug though.. the inner is correct but they don't list the OD.

Tony, i've got one of the PS -131's they used to carry right here and it's 13V 1A. It's hooked up to my dock... works fine with my 2 drive empeg. So that one i linked would be more than enough.

I'd like to be sure of its suitability before FAQing it. It's made by a different company. One man's "1A" is another man's "0.75A if you really hold my feet to the fire".

Who has a two-drive empeg and wants to be the guinea pig?

OK,

I just ordered one.

Quantity: 1 Item: PS-1215 Price: $ 7.25
- 12 VDC 1.25 AMP SWITCHING SUPPLY

Loren, I'm trusting you on this. If it fries my empeg I'm coming after you. I know where you live. Well, I don't, but I'll ask your significant other (aka, sister in law).

Support have got hundreds of US adapters - we used to have to take them out of the boxes and repack with EU or UK adapters when we shipped units from Cambridge.

Does someone in the US want to buy a batch of them at a good price and resell them over there? Would be more cost effective than shipping them all individually.

Nope, sorry. You can buy the same Sunpower MA15-150 adapters from Maplins though.

I wouldn't mind picking up a lot of 30 or so for resale with the docks I am shipping.. At this point there are over 70 docks yet to be built/sent, and I'd guess that perhaps half of the owners of those might want a USA power adaptor (the mini kind, right?) to go with the docks.

Email me?

I have a source for a small quantity of US/UK universal supplies, 120-240VAC 3.5A, you supply the 3-conductor power cord. If anyone wants one to be shipped with their docks, let me know ASAP so I can pick them up. Cost is US$16 extra (I get them for C$20 + $3 tax).

Cheers

Tony,

I received the adaptor today. I tested it out and all is well.

For those looking for adaptors, you better get them now before Tony adds the link to the FAQ and they sell out!

Cool. I assume it is the PS-1215 that you got? I'd like to know how it fares long-term, if you want to report back in a week or so. It's in the FAQ now, but if you have trouble over time, I can remove it.

Correct. PS-1215. I'll give it a good run this weekend and report back.
