Had my Mk2 for about a week and been playing it for extended periods at my desk without a problem. Just now the music stopped, I pressed loads of buttons, visuals ran slow, eventually things started to happen but then it hung and rebooted. It tries to start the first track, moves to 2nd pretty quick but then you notice visuals running slow, and eventually it hangs and reboots - I'm then stuck in this loop. Have just powered it off and gonna leave it to cool down now. Its got consumer release 1 on it, and single 18gig HD.

Well, given it a while to cool down, and disconnected from 12v. Still does the same trick of just hang and reboot :-( Cannot connect to it via USB and Emplode. Suggestions anyone, or do I report it direct to the empeg guys ?

Use Hyperterminal to get the output of the serial port during one of the hangs and post it here. If you're wondering how to do that, I just posted an item in the FAQ forum of the BBS regarding this topic.

Tony, thanks for the suggestion, however I assume that requires me to own a null modem cable. Will see if I can go out and buy one tomorrow, but was avoiding that as a) wasted money as assume I will get one from the empeg guys b) Don't know the area I currenly live in, so no idea of local stores that might stock one.

You should have gotten a null modem cable with the empeg. Hmm, am I mistaken that everyone was supposed to get one? (I know that some users got the WRONG one, are you one of those?)

This sounds like one of the files on the unit is upsetting the unit. Try to get in there and pause the unit before it hangs, then pick a new playlist if you can (note down the track that was causing the problem). If you had a serial cable I could suggest a lot of other things; if you've not got yours yet, mail [email protected] - he's sending them out to people whose units shipped without them (due to the cable suppliers' cock-up!) About 160 people got the wrong cable, and around 200 got no cable at all (since we thought this was a marginally better option than sending a useless cable). We're in the process of fixing this right now, and all replacement cables will have gone out before the end of the week.

>(note down the track that was causing the problem).
If I had known that a Britney / N'sync playlist was evil, I wouldn't have loaded it up :-)

This sounds exactly like the problem I have been having. Are you talking to Hugo about this through email?

Not quite the same problem as you - his looks like a content induced problem (ie, it gets into trouble, the audio thread munches all cpu then it falls over & restarts - then carries on trying to play the nasty file and falls over again).
As I said, you need to try getting it onto another playlist to confirm that the problem *is* with the file it's trying to play.

You must need lightening reactions to catch the pause ! It actually starts up trying to play one track, then moves to another track. I have not managed to pause it, but have got into the Playlist menu, if I choose another playlist the contents appear empty and it still hangs them reboots. Fancy direct email Hugo ?

Evetually managed to stab the pause button at the right moment. Will delete and recreate the offending playlist later. Thanks Hugo et all.

It's probably not the playlist, but the actual track playing. If it repeatably does this, I suspect we'd like a copy of the track so we can make the player more robust in that area...

Pretty sure I had played this track quite a few times already. Will upload the same track from PC to empeg and try playing it again - when I feel brave enough
