I've just discovered something very important. It's changed my life. I encourage everyone to listen to the message I heard, the message of peace and love for our future, and see the light, as I have. Click Here.

Nice. Ok, so that's the first April 1st joke. Who's next?

This had me furious for a few minutes, until I realized it was the April 1st edition.

Hah, First April Fool's joke?
Yeah, Right

You'd have to get up on the right side of the International date line first, for that to be the first April Fools joke of the year.

Read this one from This Link

Which was posted over 16 hours ago now.

I quote it:

In reply to:

01.04.2003

Health Department officials in Northland have refused to confirm that a large swarm of unusually aggressive bees is moving from the Hokianga Harbour towards the Whangaparaoa Peninsula. The swarm, which is estimated to contain at least a thousand bees, exhibit unusual behaviour after having gathered and ingested pollen from illegal marijuana crops in the Far North. Officials in Kaitaia were quick to say the bees were not related to the swarms of Killer Bees which moved up into the southern United States from Mexico, but that because their behaviour was erratic the public should take no chances if encountering a swarm. "They act in what can only be described as a paranoid state," said a DoC worker yesterday. "They start flying in one direction then suddenly appear to change their minds like they forgot what they were intending to do. The only thing that's slowing their progress is they seem to have to stop and feed constantly and that's giving us additional time to prepare."

What about this one?

"RFC 3514 was just released, with a new bit definition for use in the
headers of IP packets. Because there are important security
implications, anyone coding internet services (on either the client or
server end) should probably take a look."

And when I emailed that link to other folks in my department I got a stack of puzzled replies. Many didn't bother to read more than one paragraph - and only one person laughed. <sigh>

I got a better response when I posted this to them yesterday. From one of the security advisory sites:

Just going through the security advisories for today -

[slackware-security] Mutt buffer overflow in IMAP support

The mutt mail client packages in Slackware 8.1 and 9.0 have been upgraded to mutt-1.4.1i to fix a security problem discovered by Core Security Technologies. This issue may allow a remote attacker controlling a malicious IMAP server to execute code on your machine as the user running mutt if you connect to the IMAP server using mutt.

All sites running mutt are advised to upgrade.

I read the headline incorrectly and just about choked on my Lucozade.

Okay, it isn't an April Fool's joke, but it made me laugh anyway.

Ha! I like the "Celebrity DNA" part, especially the pricing differences between the various "celebrities". Wil Wheaton should be proud he goes for more than Linus Torvalds.

Somebody has actually made a Period Table Table which contains most of the elements. Not quite 1 atom of each element but it's still cool

...for that to be the first April Fools joke of the year.

It wasn't clear in my post, but I meant the first one on this board this year.
