I just purchased an KCA-R6A remote from onlinecarstereo.com and it seems to be a lot different than what is pictured in the FAQ section. The Zero is now under the seven (not the eight) and many things are labeled differently.

The main complain is that I can no longer find and "enter" press when I am done searching. I suppose I can remap stuff but I still have my Rio remote too and don't want to mess that up.

Any suggestions or quick fixes?

thanks

Unless I'm mistaken, the Kenwood and Rio IR codes are distinct. For example, you can tell the empeg to ignore the Kenwood remote altogether and still have the Rio one work.

Hopefully the codes are different. I haven't looked that far yet. Kind of hoping for a quick fix (isn't everyone).

Also wanted to let everyone know that they are different. Mine even has some Asian looking symbols next to the number.

Can you make a scan of it or take a picture?

They are completely different, that is correct.

That's odd that they changed the KCA-R6A. You'd think they'd have given it a different model number if they changed the button layout.

Yes, I'm not 100% sure they sent me the right one. There is no model number anywhere on the remote. I did wait one month (exactly) to receive the remote so it might be a new batch or replacement. They said they were out of stock.

I will try to get a picture on this post.

thanks

Here's a picture of the remote.

Sorry I am no photographer.

As you can see this is way much more differenter (crap that’s good that's good Englilsh ) than the old Kenwood or Rio.

Thanks for the help

It appears to say 'FOR' in front of the Kenwood logo. It might not be a genuine Kenwood-manufactured remote, but a third-party equivalent. What packaging did it come in?

Yes, good point. It came in an unmarked box inside a zip-lock baggie. It does not even say where it was made. Looks like I got a knock-off.

Great, I’m probably screwed.

No, you're not screwed at all. Just do some IR Translation work in Hijack and you're golden. You can use lots of different remotes with the car player. Just because this isn't "the exact one" doesn't mean it's non-functional.

If you do find yourself in need of a real Kenwood remote, email support as we had loads of them left over.

Yes, your right. I just feel screwed. You order one thing and then get its crappie double. I suppose I could complain and get satisfaction after MUCH aggravation but it just isn’t worth it. I just wish people would sell you what they advertise and not try to up their profit margin by substituting a “second.” Since a Rio remote would have been my first choice I guess I am now settling for my third best choice.

Internet shopping is nice but there is much to be said for seeing and touching the product before you hand over the cash.

Yes, and they charged almost $10 for shipping.

Thanks David, I have a working Rio but wanted this second one for when I'm working in the shop and covered with grease. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and spend the cash for a Rio remote. The long button push is a nice thing.

Hey David... just out of curiousity how's the business going? How about adding your site to your profile?

Things are ticking along. I've got a couple of large customers now and am trying to get some bigger contracts in. So far I'm meeting or surpassing my monthly turnover targets, which is nice - just as long as it stays that way

One customer has repeatedly offered to hire me and keeps saying that 'one day we'll make an offer you can't refuse' so I must be doing something right.

Just as long as you don't wake up with a horse head in your bed.

Or a crate of oranges in your kitchen.

The movie 'Grifters' explains how you can beat someone with a sack full of oranges, cause massive internal injury but leave no external bruising. Good movie if you haven't seen it.

Oranges are a symbol in The Godfather that bad things are about to happen. I don't remember right offhand if there was actually any crate of oranges in the movie (it's been years since I've seen it), but if there was, it would have been ominous to those who'd noticed the symbol earlier.

You could get really lucky -- maybe the knockoff supports long button presses on more buttons (the original Kenwood cannot do long presses on more than just a few buttons FF/REW).

The Hijacki button press display screen will show the buttons that can do long presses (just press+hold, then release, while watching the display).

Cheers
