Is there anyone in the UK that offers an illuminated button fitting service? I really want them, but am like a pianist in boxing gloves when it comes to soldering

I'm sure there is a little cottage industry there for someone who is competent.

Is it something that the guys in Cambridge would have time/resource/interest to offer?

Rob Schofield has offered this service in the past. He's not in the UK but he's close (NL).

I have spoke to him in the past about this, but would prefer not to have to post the empeg or parts of it.
(Just had a Very rare & expensive rear wing destroyed by royal mail)

I think i am going to ask the guys where i work if any of them can do it , i know some of them have empegs but i don't know who they are. (I work for ARM)

It's not hard if you're reasonably experienced with soldering. Just needs a good steady hand and a sharp tip on the soldering iron. Lots of flux is helpful.

Take the display board + components to an independant TV/VCR repair shop along with a printout of the necessary instructions. It's well within their capabilities if you can convince them to actually do it.

I'm doing this if you are interested. I have installed two kits succesfully, and they look great. It's not too complex, but you need to take your time and be a little careful.

I'm also doing tuner kits.

I can back Rob up on this. My Empeg is one of those two installs that Rob mentions and he absolutely did a great job at it !

Highly recommended!

Rob, will you be doing 'leds kit installs while you wait' at the euro meet?

I'm afraid not, no. The reason being that I will be pretty busy most of the time during the meet keeping things running. I found that last year I missed a lot of the event just getting things to run on time, and to add in the couple of hours per install necessary to do the button install properly would mean:

- you would all have a pretty boring time
- I would meet no-one, and worse still
- I would get to drink no beer

However, for those of you wanting the job done, if you bring the kit and your display unit (dismounted) then I would be happy to do them in the days following the event and post them to you immediately they are done. This would mean that you'd have them back inside a few days - let me know in advance if anyone is interested.

If you can offer your soldering station, I might have time to do one or two there..

Cheers

No probs, you would be welcome. I have most of the fine tools you would need. However, aren't you going to miss most of the event if you do?

Is there an update to this?

Rob I'd love to get you to do it but I'm kinda nervous about posting the wee thing...
How much would you charge - and how much would the shipping be (assuming you know of the top of your head)
