The article was talking about how he started it, all Good-Samaritan like to help out the kiddies. As I remember it, it was part of his sentence for a drug conviction. Still, he stayed with it.
What I don't quite get is how much could the program cost to produce? LeVar could show up at the local PBS station by himself and shoot the host segments. And the animations or whatever (if I remember the show correctly) are mostly just pans across still images. To me, that sounds like $1000 an episode, maybe, discounting distribution costs, which I can't imagine are the show's responsibility at PBS.
