Wow! I actually got icecast running on the empeg!
Woo woo!

Its not perfect of course. I'm sure a lot could be done in reducing its memory footprint, but I'm just amazed it worked.

I'm hesitant to put the tarball up because then people would expect some sort of support. I've just looked at/ran it today, so I couldn't do it myself.

No. It is pretty flakey and is not in an acceptable form. This program needs a lot of work to be functional.

I tried running just shout on the empeg and running icecast on another machine and I was kicked off because the server thought I was not accepting data fast enough.

Here is what shout said:

Connected: [192.168.1.101:8000\default]

[City Screaming.mp3]
[4:01] Size: 3871946 Bitrate: 128000 (49640 bytes/dot)
[.!!..!.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.]
Done:
Sent 3871818 bytes in 1434935688691712.213202176573440 seconds
Transfer rate average 92711230.570762bps
Lowest sleep time: 989996 microseconds

Perhaps if enough developers showed an interest and worked on it.

Hmm, it does need some work as it looks like it was almost maxing out ethernet but still thinking it was going too slow (for a 16kB/sec file!).

Looks like the time calculation is totally screwy.
