Just checking before I start ripping 500+ CDs in anticipation of getting the Mk2 player sometime this summer.

Audio Catalyst or MusicMatch Jukebox's Variable Bit Rate encoding does only affect the encoding and plays fine on the empeg, right?

Yes, the Empeg will play back VBR files just fine. Rip away!

Except that it sometimes gets confused when you advance within the track or go back a little ( and < FM+> buttons). It then has difficulty finding the proper index, causing the player it to skip back to a point that it does know. Not a big deal. I can't remember Rob's (??) comments on this. Believe it has something to do with the way VBR is encoded by AC. Skipping to next or previous tracks works as it should.

I have all tunes VBR encoded; can recommend despite this inconvenience. Can't remember if the empeg folks have it on their bugs list.
