There have been a few posts about dB Drag Racing, but for those who, like me, know nothing about it, read this.

That's just insane

Best quote:

"It made me vomit, twice," says John Hone, a 29-year-old member of the Team Baldman quartet, who is wearing a yellow baseball cap and grinning.

Oh, and if you wanna see what the sound is like... check out this video (wmv) from Adire Audio's website (maker of the Brahma subs). This guy cracked his door frame...

My favorite quote:
... hardly a sonorous note was heard. These stereos aren't designed with Aerosmith in mind.
I'll let you decide why I find that funny.

Perhaps because you wouldn't describe Aerosmith as a group that made sonorous sounds?

I thought that was a little dumb. I also thought the description of the sound as "tummy-turning" was a bit inapropriate

You think they'd have said ``Brahms'' or something.

Damn, I can only hit 118 on a handheld Rat Shack SPL meter... But I don't have to bolt my door shut and stand outside with fire extinguisher handy either...

I know, but it doesn't seem so hard core when you say "tummy"

, read this.

Having participated in a few dB drag races and watched a few more, I can tell you that the article really captures the flavor and essence of the "sport".

I didn't notice the date it was written -- but I think it is behind the times. If memory serves me correctly, the dB record is something like 181 decibels now. This was in an IASCA competition, and the rules (particularly regarding microphone placement) may be different so this might be an apples and oranges comparison.
