Hi, I've nearly finished building my tuner and I thought I'd check the aerial connector in my renault clio.... After 30 minutes searching for it behind the dash I eventually found it...problem is that the connector is different. On the clio it's maybe 1cm long, with a pin in the centre which it pretty much the same length...The connector on the tuner is maybe 3cm long with the hole for the pin being 3cm down the tube of the tuner connector.... Any ideas on whether I can get an adaptor for this? Help!

Thanks

Adrian

pretty much any half decent car HiFi place should be able to get you an adapter but you will probably have to ask as they aren't out on display very often for some reason

Humn...doing a search on the web has turned up an adaptor on maplins website, code MZ79L which is described as:

Adaptor with the new 10mm ISO aerial socket to a standard car aerial plug.
Ideal for installing a standard radio into a car with an ISO aerial.

It looks like it'll fit the connector in the car, and the connector on the tuner module... looks like a trip down to cambridge car audio or maplins (urgh!) to suss this out....

Can anyone confirm that the clio has a ISO connector (i'm guessing it is because I guessed it was about 10mm and this adaptor says 10mm - and it looks the same) and that the tuner module is fitted with a din connector....

Thanks...

yeah...thanks!

...i pretty much guessed this, the problems I had were:

1) Couldn't remove my cage from the car
2) Couldn't find the aerial lead

The main problem was that I've got the new tuner kit from patrick with the moulded lead, and the instruction manual is for the DIY connector, hence I didn't know which end of the lead I was supposed to be using (Ones a plug and the other is a socket)...imagine my shock when neither of them were right! Never mind, I think i'm on the trail of it now....

..just a couple of wires to solder now!

yay! it all works....

...got an adaptor and it works... Eventually figured out how to get the bottom board into the box with the new pre moulded aerial cable... Then found that the installer of my empeg actually cut the +12v cable on the harness to the radio module so I make a short patch cable to enable it....it all works now! Including the clio stalk through a autoleads adaptor to the tuner.....

Excellent!

Which Clio do you have? I'm thinking of getting one myself...

it's a clio 2 (1999), only 1.2l....was thinking about getting a 2.0 clio cup... Really like my clio, nice to drive and is fairly nippy even considering the engine size.... The newer models look slightly meaner as well...

Believe! 172 is so much nicer looking than the boy racer (out of boy racer price range) clio V6, ok, it's nowhere near as quick but the 172 is still a fairly quick car and it looks nice because they've not messed up the bodywork...
