I have searched through the FAQ and posts here but haven't found a specific answer to this question. I have been having off and on problems with my hard drive not reading properly ever since I owned the Empeg but it hasn't been a major deal until now. Usually it was a bad cable or drive and I would send it back to the UK to be massaged and it would come back working fine. NOw that I can't do that, I am running into the following issue and short of replacing the hard drive (which I don't want to do) I can't see an easy way to fix it. Thus I turn to you.

Basically, when I went to sync music today, the process failed and my second drive (hdb) dropped from the Empeg's site. When I boot up now, this is what I get through the seriel connection:

EXT2-fs warning (device ide0(3,68)): ext2_free_blocks: bit already cleared for block 73203
Untill eventually it just stops and hangs.

I have not tried this in the car which sometimes corrects this problem but every connection attemp through AC power seems to be resulting in this. I also opened her up to make sure all mount points and connections are solid which they are. Am I through or is there hope?

Greg

The hard drive seems to be behaving, but the filesystem data structures are corrupted. If you try another SYNC from Emplode, then it may do a proper filesystem check and fix the problem. Be prepared to wait an hour or more for it to do it's thing, though

The FAQ undoubtedly has more info, but try the simple SYNC again first.

Just to clarify, when the system it hangs on "Building music database" (in the display) and on the last "EXT2-fs warning . . . " (In Terminal) it never gets to a point where Emplode will recognize it for a SYNC. I only let it hang for a couple of minutes so it may be doing something but I don't hear any drives spin or see any action in the terminal screen. I will run it now for an hour+ on the hang but my feeling is that it is frozen trying to do something. I can reach the pump from boot but I don't think that will do anything.

Addemndum - I am flashing the kernel and putting in the developers image again whihc is getting me around this problem. Thank you for you help!!!!

Addemndum - After I replaced the kernel with 2.0 developers, I am still running into the same problem. Delving into the FAQ again for some more help.

Oh well, I suppose if it never gets running well enough to do a "sync", then you'll have to consult the FAQ for the exact instructions on fixing the filesystems. That's what you need to do at this point.

Cheers

That would be this FAQ.

However, I can not get to a shell prompt to issue the fix the FAQ suggests. If I try to do a 'q'(enter) at boot it just ignores it and freezes at the stop point. I can apply a new kernel to the system but I come up with the same problem. I can get to the pump prompt but I don't think I can issue shell commands there. Can I?

The pump prompt is not a shell prompt.

Try hitting Ctrl-C instead of just q.

And if that fails, then reapply one of the developer upgrades (v2.00 final is okay) to restore the more critical files. Might even fix the whole deal in one go.

Again, the BBS comes through with flying colors. I used cntr-C to get into the prompt, the instructions from the FAQ to fix the drive, and I am doing a simple sync through Emplode to fix the database.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped out and got me back on my feet.
