After linking to a url on my personal web server from a posting here, I was monitoring bandwidth usage and happened to notice more non-IE user-agents than I had expected.

IE 6: 13
IE 5: 1
Safari: 1
NS 7: 1
Mozilla/Firebird: 7
Opera: 4
wget: 1

Looks like empeg users are ahead of the curve (duh), but this is quite a small sampling. Still, I'm impressed at almost 50% being non-IE.

What browsers and OS's do empeg users use?

Personally, I use Mozilla Firebird on Windows XP or Win2k and IE6 for those few ecommerce sites that simply don't work right in anything but IE..

I mostly use Avant Browser which is just a wrapper for IE. However, it does identify itself as Avant.

My user-agent suffered a complete breakdown the other week (it kept becoming WS_EX_TOPMOST without me asking it). The dealership said it was a write-off, but fortunately the insurance money bought me a brand new mozilla.

I use Opera, but it is set to identify itself as IE6.0, otherwise some of our very well written internal websites die horribly

There were some Opera UA's that look like IE6 but have opera appended, like this:

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1) Opera 7.11 [en]

Just remember, that's the breakdown of this board. I'm sure that's not representative of the rest of the internet, though the other browsers can only get more popular from this point on.

Of course, I'm also an IE person, so I guess I shouldn't talk. I've tried all the others, though (that I've seen for Windows), and I use Opera on my phone, so does that count? I simply didn't like how the others worked.

Until other browsers can render my home page (which is XML with an XSLT stylesheet) properly, then I'm sticking with IE6.

Mozilla/Firebird actually tries (which is better than a few months ago), but then gives me a "Error loading stylesheet: Parsing a XSLT stylesheet failed." error with no further explanation, making it kinda hard to debug.

Moreover, it's got some irritating bugs in the copy/paste code which will probably piss me off too much to stick with it.

If anybody fancies looking at my XML and can tell me what's wrong with it, it's at http://www.differentpla.net/~roger/links.xml (and links.xsl)

This output doesn't like the xml:stylesheet tag, but it's just a warning...

Don't know if it will help, but you could use this.

The XML's kosher -- there's something wrong with the XSL. But I don't know what -- Mozilla won't tell me, and I don't know of any validation tools.

List of browsers I use in order of frequency:

Mozilla 1.4 Solaris/Sparc
OmniWeb 4.5 MacOSX
Mozilla 1.4 Win32
IE v?? Win32
IE (latest) MacOSX

And then there are a few others here and there, but that covers probably 99.9% of my browsing.

Hmm, interesting. I use a very similiar program called MYIE2. It is a wrapper for IE with tabbed browsing and mouse gestures and pop-up blocking and skins. It is nice because it really is IE and renders pages "correctly". I swear I am never going back to regular IE.

Try this:

replace this:
<?xml:stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="links.xsl"?>

with this:
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="links.xsl"?>

and replace this:
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-xsl">

with this:
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" >

FYI, pointers found at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/xslt/faq.html

Up until about a week ago I was using Internet Explorer 6.0 then some here mentioned Mozilla so I figured I'd give it a whirl since I haven't used it in about eight years or so... I like it tons better than IE6.0 there's no comparison for me really.

Some of my favorite features of Mozilla 1.4 Browser versus IE6.0 are:
The ability to use "Tabs" for web pages and "Windows". IE6.0 only allows Windows.
I like the bookmarks at the top of the page instead of the "Favorites" pane.
The included pop-up blocker.
The password managers seems to be more intuitive than IE6.0

A few favorites of Mozilla 1.4 email versus Outlook XP:
You can thread your emails so when a bunch of your buddies start arguing over something silly back and forth you can simply collapse the thead.
You can actually right click a hyperlink in an email and open it in a "New Tab" or Window; no more losing the page you were just on!
A very simple and straight forward way to handle multiple email acounts!

So far, this is what the boards have seen:

1 298879 67.60% MSIE 6.0
2 77925 17.63% Mozilla/5.0
3 29144 6.59% MSIE 5.5
4 11830 2.68% Mozilla/3.01 (compatible;)
5 9626 2.18% MSIE 5.0

Everything below this was under a percentage point.

Something I found that is helpful is middle clicking on links (push down on your mouse wheel if you have one). This will open a link in a new tab. You can then middle click on the tab header to close it, also.
