There's a really short article on The Register about the new Rio players. It's got the prices and that they all go on sale this month. Not much else new information though.

Quite a lot of misinformation about the Nitrus, though.

1. It's much smaller than an iPod
2. It's not a HDD/Flash combo - it is a micro HDD unit

Maybe more news on the rio site soon? I get the following message:

11.aug.2003 15.36 CEST: "We are upgrading our website. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please come back in an hour. "

The question is, who did the singing and who did the dancing?

I'm looking forward to a Karma. Great looking site!

(Credibility alert: The S10 and S50 have different hours of songs/music in the ninja graphic and the text. I'm used to seeing inconsistent specs, but Joe Consumer might get a bit confused.)

Or directly:

http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/shop/_templates/item_main_Rio.asp?model=220&cat=35 for the Karma.

And anyone tested the site? On my (win2K) mozilla 1.4 I can't use the menus for the Karma features...

Look at the sub-head on this Yahoo! Finance story. Where are they getting this "cross betw. HDD/flash" stuff?

I think what they may mean is that it has higher capacity than most flash players, and less capacity than HDD players. It's also the size of a flash player and has excellent battery life like a flash player.

I think that is exactly what the press release means, i.e. this has some of the qualities/benefits of both kinds of players. But it seems to foster the confusion of The Register piece. They interpreted "cross between them" the way I would have: I inferred a HDD player that also reads flash memory cards.
