Well, I have a problem in my building...

I installed a Terk Leapfrog 2.4 Ghz wireless audio/video sender that worked fine when I first installed it...

Now, someone must have installed a wireless network or cordless phone near me as I have a ton of interference on the video and the audio... A call to Terk says that there's nothing I can do.

Here's what I'd like to do... Can I buy something that will create a lot of noise in the 2.4 Ghz range that will make it unattractive for my neighbor to be running this equipment? I know, it's not the nicest thing to do, but it needs to be done as I have no good alternative to the Terk.

Please no flames, just ideas...?

I would think your device would be causing problems for them too.

I don't condone this obviously but you just need more of the transmitters and leave them near him. Everytime somebody nearby uses one of those my throughput drops a bit. It's never cut out however so you'll just be slowing him down.

My 802.11g signal creates a lot of interference with video senders. But as it's the unlicensed band and he's not modifying his equipment then he's perfectly okay to do this. You trying to jam his signal however would be frown upon by the authorities.

Also be aware of the fact that most video senders don't have a particularly strong output. They're normally about 10mW but a wireless LAN would be using at least 22mW. Don't know about cordless phones as all the DECT ones in the UK don't actually use 2.4GHz.

I'd sugest a quick google search for "tragedy of the commons". Then consider how usefull your wirelss video sender will be once you're sucessfully jamming all communications on the 2.4ghz band. Have you checked 900mhz or 5ghz video senders? If that still doesn't work, cables really aren't that hard to hide.

PS: Sorry to almost flame. I know what you're dealing with. I don't want to spend the $100 to upgrade my network to 802.11a, but being a college student in an appartment building, it's looking like it's going to be necessary.

Interesting. I also have a wireless audio/video sender but I don't see any interference with my wireless network.

Can you change the channel that the A/V sender works on?

Find out whose network and ask if they can change channels?

Thanks for the quick advice everyone. The Terk has 4 channels, and I get the same interference on all of em. It's model LF-30S if anyone is interested...

There are 900 Mhz video senders out there, but I've read that they aren't very good... I think the 2.4 in a clean environment is really much improved...

Hiding cables? Very difficult in my place.

Talking to the neighbors? Good idea, and am going to try that - I would replace someone's 2.4 Ghz with a 900 if that helped, although I'm not sure they'd want that...
