borislav addict Registered: 30/04/2000 Posts: 420 Loc: Sunnyvale, CA, USA	While I'm at work I have my empeg connected to our ethernet network. There's nothing stopping any of my coworkers from running emplode and deleting all my music while I'm looking the other way. Now, they wouldn't do that, of course, but still... Are there any plans to secure the empeg in any way? Borislav (I'm not paranoid, it's just that everybody is out to get me)

Plug the empeg directly into the new NIC with a crossover cable and only your computer would have access to the empeg.

I guess his work "PC" is a SPARC/Solaris box. If we have a bunch of those here too. I occasionally try to get people to install SPARC Linux on them Borislav

In the context of Ethernet, yes. Here is a site with a nice wiring diagram: http://www.macinstruct.com/tutorials/net101/#chap4 Serial cables also come in two flavours - a normal cable connects a computer to a modem, a null-modem cable connects two computers. The empeg comes with a null-modem cable. Borislav
