A google isn't helping me at the moment...

Anyone know of anyone who sells small, quiet drum (squirrel cage) fans? Approx 40mm x 40mm x 100mm. This is related to my CPU temp experiments. I need to get more cool air into the case because the CPU fan is just recirculating hot air inside the case. Although there is a mounting point for an 80mm round case fan, it's nowhere near the CPU and is in an odd position on the case where it wouldn't really get the opportunity to move that much air (either in or out). Much better would be a squirrel cage over a rectangular opening I've got on the back of the case very close to the CPU. But all the PC fan makers seem to sell is the 80mm round fans.

Got any old laser printers / copiers laying around they frequently use those type of fans.

Yes, I'm a fan of small drums. I like bongos best, but timbales are really cool

Just look for PABST fans, they come in in all sizes and they are very quiet.
This is an example of a store that sells them in Europe, but I'm sure they are sold in the US too.

You can buy some blowers at radio shack, if you want easy availability. I think they are larger than 40mm though.

Pabst fans???? I usually use a fridge to keep my beer cold...

And as a sidebar, I actually was going to use something like the line that Muzza posted earlier this am but I thought I would be considered too cheezy to remain a member of the board if I did...I'm glad that I'm safe now

All of those exceed the 40mm width requirement for the spot I want to put them.

I think I'll just be doing pairs of 40mm regular fans instead.

Don't you need to get air out of the case as well? I would think that would be even more of an issue than getting air in.

Digikey sells some blowers.

Some 50mm here.

Main product search here. A lot of them are non-stock.

Agreed, and I am trying to plan for a proper airflow scheme that combines pushing and pulling to get the best available cooling while still remaining as quiet as possible. Taking into account all the factors, of course, such as which things generate heat, trying to make sure not to pull hot air over something that's already hot, etc.
