the original fascia looks in the car very nice -
but at home next to the hi-fi system ?

So I started my own projekt.

The main specification was an aluminum front panel with a standard hi-fi width (430mm)

The housing is practically finished.

I have no plan to sell the housing as a kit.
I don't think there is market in this high price segment.
A complete kit will be a multiple from mlords's home dock.

But there is some hope.
If someone really interested to get a kit.
I have some spare parts.
With this parts I can build up about 2 or 3 kits.

Nice. Really very nice. Where were you when the Rio Central plastics were being designed?

Nice clean desgin.

For those of you who want to make somethinh similar I found this page
http://www.schaeffer-apparatebau.de/English/index.htm

Haven't ordered anything from them, but the program you can use look great.
It even calculates the price for you.

I designed the front panel with the software from Schaeffer-Apparetebau.
The software is very easy to handle and it's free.
When the design is finished, you can transmit the data online and 2 weeks later you get your front panel.
The company is very recommendable.

was it hard to make? have you found a learning remote that would work for it or do you use the original?

I started my project this february. The project stood still for about two month,
because I had to wait for the knobs from Tim (NewFace).
Once I got the knobs I could finish the design of the front-panel.

I work as a hardware/software engineer. So I could use the infrastructure from the company.
With this possibilities was it easily to make the small pcb for the display-unit extension or
to find the sources for the electrical equipment.

I use still the original remote. It's also possible to use the IRDA-interface on the front-panel.

If this is the case then you really should consider making this available as a kit. I bet you would sell more than you think.

If you won't mind me asking...how much did it cost you to make?

It's difficult to calculate the exactly cost.

For some parts I had to pay initial cost (like the PCB)
on other parts was a minimum (I have 100ft ribbon cable at home)
or other parts didn't achieve my standard.

I have made one for me and sold one kit to a good friend.
(It's a "small" version with a silver front-panel and blue lenses)

With the spare parts I can build up 3 housings.
If I can sell the housings it helps me to reduce the cost
and you will get an excellent housing for a fair price.

the guiding price is for the "power" version 400€
and for the "small" version 300€

Let me know if there is any demand?

Definitely interested - especially if 19" rackmount brackets could be added. I was actually thinking about something like that for mounting the empeg in the Electronic Warfare truck

My friend hasn't finished his housing. Sorry there are no pictures.
In the attachment is a thumbsketch of the housing.

The exchange rate $ to € is close one to one.
Probably the "small" version get a little cheaper and the "power" version gets more expensive.

For this case there are no 19" rackmount brackets available.
Perhaps you could mount 19" rackmount brackets do it yourself.
If you are interested in a 19" case I can find for you a 19" case or
I sell you according to your data the front panel, back panel and the original electrical kit.

f you are interested in a 19" case I can find for you a 19" case or
I sell you according to your data the front panel, back panel and the original electrical kit.

Both would work - of course, if you can find a 19" one, it would save me from having to do that

I had a very similar idea in mind. well done, it looks good. How did you go about building the power supply? Is that a custom job, or were you able to purchase off the shelf?

The power supply, the empty housing, and the knobs are standard products.
The front and back panel and the lenses are custom made.
The PCB an the extension-cable and all other cables are manufactured by me.

There are two Empeg-housing-kits remaining for sale.

See more informations about the housing-projket: http://mypage.bluewin.ch/coolblue/HiFiHousing/EmpegHousingProjekt.htm

The housings are configurable.
Have look on this page to have an idea: http://mypage.bluewin.ch/coolblue/configuration/EmpegHousingCreator.htm

The price for the big housing with power-supply is 560 sFr (about $420 US)
and the small one without power-supply is 430 sFr (about $320 US)

The kits includes all necessary installation-materials (screw, nuts, ...)
The electrical-kit is prepared. (You don't need a solder-iron)
Also all metal work is done.
You will need normal tools like screwdrivers and hex-tools.
Experience in how to open the empeg-player is recommended.

My contact address is [email protected]
