On my way home from Big Bear today, I was driving down the road, and got to a section of tight, twisty turns that you had to slow waaaay down for -- the warning signs all say 20mph. I came around one corner, and there was a black thing in the middle of the road, about 6 inches from the double yellow. I said to myself, "Dollars to donuts, I know what that is." So I pulled over into the next turn-out, 50 meters up the road, and walked back to get it -- a little black bag. I got back to the truck, opened it up, and yep -- inside was a digital camera. Woot!

Are you going to reveal anything on a certain date?

Some digital cameras allow you to enter the owner's name and sometimes a phone number into its memory. Perhaps if you look in its menus, you can find that information and re-unite it with its owner.

Some of them have the data but it's not visible in the camera menus itself.

My IXUS has got my name in it but you can only tell by looking at the EXIF data embedded in the images. Also it's awkward to set as you have to do it via the Canon remote capture application whilst you've got it plugged in via USB. So chances are that most people out there don't even know it's got this or know how to read it. Stupid implementation IMO

Nothing in the menus that I could find. Nothing in the camera bag. Nothing in the details of the pictures to identify a name or address of anywhere they went. There were some pictures of them in a boat, but no shot of the boat name or registration number. Absolutely nothing identifying at all, unless you knew the family in the pictures.

I'll check that, but I don't have very high expectations. It seems a little dumb that more digital cameras *don't* have that feature. This is now the second digital camera I've found, and neither of them had a name anywhere. I think I'll take a picture of a paper with my contact info on it, and lock it so I don't accidentally delete it.

And how, exactly, would that be the honest thing to do?

Get your camera engraved. Much harder to lose the ID info then. May be awkward if you ever sell but *shrug*

If you do return the camera then just remember to not pretend to be a Jedi and then not delete the pics!

see thats the beauty of it. it wouldnt be. i guess a ransom could be a better alternative.

acdsee is a wonderful image viewing program. it also will display full metadata, which may or may not have their info in it.

Heh.

Looks like it's mine now, anyway. No info in the metadata, either.

Get your camera engraved.

Yeah, I thought of that, but then I have to actually find somewhere that will engrave it, and that's a lot of effort. Besides, I figure easy come, easy go.
