Anybody have any experience with these products? They are supposed to boost the line signal to the amp to as much as 8 volts. I am asking this for i have noticed that in order to get the same volume out of my speakers for the Rio when compared to my old Sony HU I have to turn the gain on the amps almost to full.

Here is the link to the product.

Thanks,

Ed

i have the same problem, and was considering a similar solution. one thing though... are there 4 inputs and 4 outputs, or just 2? also, you might have to check if your amp accepts 8v inputs

Isn't that what the gain is for?

yes...but it just seems to me that i am losing some headroom on the amp my having to turn the gains up higher with the Rio than I would have with the Sony. I definately hear a difference in A/B comparison

also a consideration is that you're going to want the unit as close to your empeg as possible. its pretty pointless to put it right next to the amp, because the noise that your rca cables pick up from traveling to the rear is just magnified. hope you have room in your dash still, as well as tapping into something else's power line.

Hrmm, I am begging flames for this one

in my mind the single best use of a line driver is to convert from the outputs of the empeg to a balanced differential output. Doing that in my environment virtually eliminated all noise... you too might have the same experience... The output of the rio car is rather noisy.

Well I have used every last inch on the Miata to install both the Rio and Sony HU's. I can probably find some room to install the pre-amp close to them....it doesnt look all that big.....

As opposed to the noise that the rca cables pick up from traveling from the line driver to the rear?

Ahh yes. But the point is that you'll get just the normal level of noise. If you had the line amp right at the end then you'll get the noise amplified along with the signal.

i actually have top of the line monster RCA 's (about $75)from the HU to the amps, which are twisted cables, so hopefully there wont be much noise drawn into the run...
