Now that I'm off Windows and using a Mac, I'm having quite a lot of problems with uploading new music. I've tried jemplode and it works - as long as I don't run the application for more than a couple minutes.

Since emplode works great on a PC, i'd never messed too much with hijack's FTP abilities. However, now that I'm sort of stuck, is it not possible to FTP songs to the empeg and have them appear in playlists?

Since FTP is a universal protocol, with clients for every OS, wouldn't it make a lot of sense to be able to just FTP music to the empeg?

Won't work without a lot of hacking on your part. You probaly want to investigate why jemplode keeps crashing on you. Have you upradeed to the latest and greatest sun JVM? That's probably the first step.

(mac zealots: Is the sun jvm the best for macs?)

I've forgotton the name of it, but somebody here has written software to do something like that -- database generation etc.. on the host computer, and then simple FTP blasting of it all up to the Empeg. Probably written for Linux (which runs on Macs), but could be ported to OSX without much trouble I expect.

Cheers

pim's mp3tofid and rsync code is here. May be "fun" trying to use it with FTP though...

Hrmm, there's a good chance that I was managing to run the wrong version of jemplode. I think what tricked me is that on the downloads page, the MacOS row is automatically hilighted, and tricked me into choosing it - just like a magician pushing a card on you. Now that I've actually downloaded the OSX version, let's see if I have the same problems.

Yeah, if you've got problems with Jemplode, definitely talk to Mike about bugfixes it before giving up on it and trying to find an alternative. It should "Just work" on your Macintosh. That's the whole point of Jemplode in the first place.

Yes. And Apple includes it as a core component of the OS. It's also a component that gets updated via Sodtware Update. So, if he has an up to date Mac, he should be running Java 1.4.1. The nice thing is Apple has improved Java on OS X, but without breaking the standards, like *cough* MS *cough*.

I could never get jmeplode to work 100% under Mac OS9 (or WinNT at work for that matter), so I just bought a $299 PC for mainly Empeg and TiVo work and to give my modem a work out downloading 'Critical' patches.

Virtual PC worked fine too, but a 1.8GHz Intel box is a lot faster than VPC (and not much more expensive).

Heh, that's scary, when the actual device is as cheap as the emulation software.

under Mac OS9
I don't believe MacOS9 ever had a sufficiently up-to-date JVM.
