is there a place we can submit bug reports, or perhaps they are not ready for them yet, since there are so many, they might be working on them, and prob dont want to hear everyone's bug about the same things.

If nothing else, look at the thread in the bug reports forum. I suspect nothing else for now as they're presumably still busy.

the cross fading is awesome, and is way overdue IMHO. Its still buggy, but i'm sure that will be worked out in time. I'm excited about this new release!

Another Skinny Puppy fan! Wow!

They are back together and are recording a new album (1 new track on the Underworld OST).

from the release notes:

In reply to:

Please submit bugs to Bugzilla, in the "Rio Car v3" project. Please try
not to mix up bugs in the v2 and v3 projects, as much of the underlying
code will be different.

If you are not an alpha tester, please hold back on reporting bugs until
a public Beta is released - unless it is something really critical!

d33zY, why are you always popping in here and starting fights?!!

Actually, the mention of a possible future beta, AND the fact that they expected non-alpha testers to get their hands on this creates some hope of newer versions down the line!

Starting fights? Seemed a reasonable enough post to me...
It basically says to enter bugs into Bugzilla which the alpha testers have access to. If you're not an alpha tester then you wouldn't have access to Bugzilla and therefore should wait for the proper beta release.
I think it's been mentioned before that it's highly likely there will be further releases, the empeg team have just been really busy recently and not had the time.

I was just making a little joke because people tend to (I think I even did once over a year back) assume that his posts are attempts to get people riled up.

I love seeing Sadam doing a "hand plant" SK8R move though!

Didn't see anything in the release notes about FLAC support. Does it?

I tried to upload some flac files but they were rejected, so I guess the answer is "not yet". Did anybody succeed in uploading flac files?

Rob and Co. I have to say thankyou for the best laugh I've had in a looooong time. My wife and I just spent about an hour just listening to different songs with the pitch bender turned up to about 176%. We just couldn't stop laughing hearing "Alvin" doing all these songs. Other than REM I have to say my favorite song has to be "Blood" by Pearl Jam. I could just see Alvin and the Chipmunks screaming this one at the top of their lungs.

I try your solution - but I cant get the player running. After the long building of database the serial log shows the following:

Press Ctrl-A to enter pump... player.cpp : 602:empeg-car 3.00-alpha3 200
3/07/02.
LAC construct 0x4018a008
VM: killing process player
buffermem : 331776
page_cache_size : 428
nr_free_pages : 67
num_physpages : 4096

Then the rebuild-process is starting again :-((

What can i do ?

What worked for me was syncing with jEmpload. jEmpload did throw an error of some sort the first time, but then worked without issue after that (unlike Empload, which errored out completly every time). Once it got over this initial hump things worked great.

OK... followed the install instructions and it installs V3a3... does the dtabase rebuild and all... then at first it was hanging on a line that said "starting serial output notify". Well, I went through and edited my config.ini and removed the hijack call there and then re-installed. Now I've tried a few times now and it hangs on a line saying "starting user poll thread"... anyone have any ideas why I cannot get this even installed? I had Ver 2.0 final and hijack 340 installed prior to this as well as having the Palantir stuff... I'm wondering if the palantir stuff is the problem

Get a shell either via the serial port, or by installing telnetd (it's possible, by the way, to run the devs script for telnet via hijack from config.ini; just remember ro run "rw" before it, and "ro"after it), and go into /empeg/var and remove the database. Then, hopefully the player rebuilds the database again when it restarts. Then, synchronize again.

If that fails, ftp off a copy of the database and some sucker (perhaps me) can try it on their player and see if it results in horkage.

I know I know, no support, but I figured I could get a little hint?

I'm getting the following error.

"Download failed while checking database. Error 0xc0041002"

I rebuilt the player, then reupgraded to 3.0a3. I am also using 2.10 emplode. Neither jEmplode or 2.0 emplode will recognize that the player is there. This happens on win2k and winxp over ethernet and serial.

Any suggestions?

I try it via serial shell - without real success:

empeg:/empeg/bin# rwm
empeg:/empeg/bin# rm /drive0/var/database
empeg:/empeg/bin# rm /drive0/var/playlists
empeg:/empeg/bin# rm /drive0/var/tags
empeg:/empeg/bin# exit
logout
Shell exit

VM: killing process player
buffermem : 331776
page_cache_size : 430
nr_free_pages : 39
num_physpages : 4096
Restored terminal settings
Remounting first music partition read-only
Remounting second music partition read-only
Abnormal player termination
Player received signal 9
Starting bash.
empeg:/empeg/bin#

The last line in display is "Loading visuals..."

I expected /drive0/var/database3. What tool did you use to build that database?

I dont have such a file, only database - not database3. I deleted all files in /drive0/var, except config.ini, in /drive1/var were no files. The player restored then the files after exit from shell.

Sorry, my fault. It seems it was database3. I try it again and there was now a database3 file. But no success - the player restarts over and over.

I found that the fs on drive1 was damaged, at the moment fsck do his job after the umount....

If that doesn't work try installing hijack. I was getting a similar player crash until I reinstalled hijack. Not sure why it would make a difference, but worth a shot.

No, thats also not the solution. I tried v342, but the player does always restart:

No, thats also not the solution.

Is this a MK2 or 2a? The player app is getting killed because the empeg is low on memory. Do you have reservecache set in your config.ini? If not try setting it to something like 32 so the player doesn't take up as much memory (search here or the faq for exact syntax).

I had the same problem. If you follow the link from one of Tony's posts earlier in this thread to the FAQ follow the instructions for shelling into the Empeg and deleteting the databases and having it rebuild them. It worked great for me.
