Anyone got any tips on the process of upgrading from NT 4 to WIn2K?

Any problems or issues to be aware of?

Um yeah... Don't upgrade, do a clean install?

Server: Potential serious problems: Domain controllers or BDC's, dynamic disks (or software RAID). A clean install really is the best option. Old NT CD-RW drivers can do bad things to W2k as well.

Workstation: Ditto on CD-RW drivers. Back up first if you want to try it.

Overall, I think Tony's right. My only thought is that you make a SP4 slipstreamed install CD before you start (or whatever SP you want to go to). Good info here.

Actually, I am going to go against the flow here and say upgrade. But spend some time researching it before you do this. The time spent here will be saved later in not having to set up every machine again from scratch.

MS did actually put alot of effort into the upgrade process for servers. All of Compaq migrated from NT 4 to 2000 on the server side using upgrades. And from the user perspective, it was trouble free. Not transparent however, as Compaq reduced the domains down to 4 world wide, from the ton that existed from the Compaq/Digital merger.
