This is "excellent" protection. The audio isn't tampered with like the other systems which fiddle with ECC. It also allows me to rip the CD easily for the same reasons
It's quite naive to assume that a software driver which you load off the CD will protect it. Unfortunately I can see this being extended by Microsoft and them including something equivalent in Windows itself as part of their trusted computing initiative. Shame I rip my CDs on my Linux machine and not my Windows laptop
