Greetings!

Well, there have been two recent catastrophic VFD breakages in the last week or so on the board. My last two spares may soon be gone, and I will be out of stock - a position I do not personally like. So...

I am thinking about another (slightly smaller) bulk VFD purchase. Anyone interested? No details on price, quantity or availability yet, but I hope to have more data on that today. I intend to get a few to have on hand, in case of random bouts with gravity or other dangerous-to-glass incidents.

I would be interested in repurchasing one if they were easy to adapt to the remote install kit that Mike will be selling later this month. I'm not sure if he will definitely be selling VFDs with the kit or not and what size he decided on if he does.

Greetings!

I know that he plans on selling the small VFD with that kit, or at least he was planning on it. I already have those small VFDs sitting around, waiting for the rest of the kit to be completed. When he is ready, I will ship the batch off to him for inclusion into the kit.

The VFDs used in the kit aren't the same as the empeg ones. The kit ones have a TTL RS232 PCB attached to the back. The kit converts the TTL level signals to proper RS232 levels. The empeg one however is a just a raw VFD without the electronics.

Hmmm... Initial availability estimates do not look promising.

They do not have any in stock in either their Chicago office or in Japan. Chicago already had an order pending for this module, so I have placed an order that will be added onto their existing order. Best delivery time is estimated at the first week of December!!!

Price is currently estimated at $60, including shipping. Unit price was quoted at $52.90, but I expect that there will be tax and shipping from Noritake. $60 is what I think I charged last time, and I mostly broke even on that, plus or minus a few bucks after tax, shipping, re-packing and re-shipping.

The moral of the story is: be careful and don't drop your empegs until December!!!

Rod (working on PaulWay's Mark1) - I have reserved my final spare for you. If you cannot find one geographically closer, send me an email or PM, and I will send it to you.

Greetings!

Okay... Since it will be a little while until these actually arrive, let's freeze this thread until I can actually be sure that I can get them. At that point, those who have requested by this point will be notified, and then I will re-open it for other folks. I ordered 20, and I already count between 10 and 12 requested so far...

Hi Paul,

Thanks for holding a display for Paul Way's Mark1 repair. I'll do a ring around to see if I can find one. Will let you know how I get on.

I'll put in to the common goal of having a known good supply of VFDs - count me in for one.

Okay. I have put an order in for thirty units. It will still take at least a month or two until the order is filled. I will post more when I hear it...

Greetings!

The bulk ordered VFDs have arrived, somewhat ahead of schedule. I ordered / received thirty (30) VFD modules. Right now, I have the following people marked down as "interested", and the maximum quantity they wanted (i.e., if it was "one or two", I assume "two"). If you are on this list, please send me email (my address is in my profile) to confirm that you still want it / them.

There was also someone with a failed VFD that was waiting also. Please send me email as well.

I prefer the email because it is far easier for me to track with an email thread / folder than random PMs or posts.

After this group is complete, I will open up any remaining modules for sale at that time. Even though I intend to hold at least three for myself, there should be a few up for grabs.

My cost to get them here, with tax and shipping, was $56.28. I will be charging $60 per unit - to cover the packaging and shipping charges from my side. It should balance out; I am not trying to make money on the side here.

The people / quantity who have reserved VFDs so far are:

phi144 : 1
robricc : 3
TigerJimmy : 2
customsex : 1
elperepat : 2
lopan : 1
gogee2000 : 1
Lupo : 1

julf : 2
marria01 : 1
oliver : 1
jrstone2000 : 1
PaulWay : 1
JaBZ : 1
speedy67 : 1
Attack : 1

Thanks!
