Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next short of a new computer?

I applied the latest Hot Fix to XP and shortly there after my internet connection no longer functions. I've reformatted and reinstalled XP, installed a new NIC, and verified that the cable modem and connection works through a Win 2000 box. I have turned off the XP firewall/wireless protocols and have only configured TCP/IP for automatic DNS/IP address configuration.

When I attempt to ipconfig /renew, the request times out with a "unable to contact your DHCP server".

Any ideas?

After the 6th re-install with XP hanging at installing networking, I was able to get it to work again by removing the NIC and moving it one slot over. On to the application re-install...
