I have a couple mac questions hopefully someone can help me

First I can access shared files from my xp machine fine but is there a way to automatically connect to the shared folders when I start the mac ?

Is there a way to open the cd tray without the mac keyboard ? Right now I have to run itunes and use its eject button.

There has to be an easier way to do it, but typing "drutil tray open" in a terminal window should work as a last resort.

There are a few ways actually. I would try this one.

Oh, and have you tried the F12 key? I think that is supposed to work on Apple's keyboards that don't have eject keys, not sure about third party stuff.

I can't test this right now, but I think if you connect to your server and tell it to save the password, then drag it's drive icon to the startup items (in 10.3) it will automagically load on startup. Or maybe you have to make an alias first, and give the alias to Startup Items.

Here's what I think you are talking about Link

It works but I can't get the key chain to work so it asks for the login info each time I start the mac. I check add to keychain but it doesn't work. If I look at the keychain application it shows I added it and the password is in there.

The other problem with that method is that the share isn't mounted until you login so if you want it mounted even if you haven't logged in yet or another user is logged in you have to use the netinfo method or put together a shell script using mount_smbfs.

here's how to add an eject button found on macworld.com

Adding an Eject Icon

The prescribed way to eject a CD or DVD is to press the eject (or F12) key on your keyboard. That's not much help if you have a non-Apple keyboard, if you have more than one drive capable of ejecting, or if, in a fit of troubleshooting, you find yourself without a keyboard altogether. Fortunately, there's a secret way to do the same thing: install the Eject menulet.

To find the installer, go to the root of your hard drive and open System: Library: CoreServices: Menu Extras. Inside that window, double-click on the icon called Eject.menu.

Now look at your menu bar, and you'll find the new Eject icon. Use it as a menu and choose the drive you'd like to eject.

There's a Control Panel (or whatever MacOS X calls them) that allows you to set up keyboard shortcuts. See if you can assign it in there.
