I am thinking about buying an empeg but really, really need a tuner as I want to have the empeg drive an amp directly, and I am a National Public Radio and Howard Stern fanatic.

How easy is it to find tuners? The FAQ points to the PCATS tuner but the PCATS web site is stale. I just got outbid last night on eBay in the last 30 sec on a unit w/ a tuner, and there don't seem to be many units going on sale w/ tuners.

If I can't find one w/ a tuner, I will probably just skip the whole thing and get a regular CD deck and buy an empeg later when I can afford both ;^(

You should be able to find a tuner, either through PCA or through a resale.

I'm surprised to discover that the official PCATS site is down. Wonder what's up with that? Patrick's other site is here but I get the feeling he hasn't updated it in a while.

If you can't find a tuner, can you fit two stereos in the dash? You could have a CD player feeding into the empeg's Aux-in and still be driving the amp directly.

I didn't realize the empeg had an aux in. So I could use the deck to drive the empeg, or vice versa. I just don't want to have to buy a deck, empeg, amp, and speakers all at once right now (I just bought a Suburu WRX STi and it didn't come w/ any stereo.)

What does the PCA tuner cost, assuming he's still making them?

Patrick's tuner was (is) £110 + shipping. Bear in mind its unassembled and there is a large waiting list.

I just bought a Suburu WRX STi and it didn't come w/ any stereo.

More than one person on this BBS has put an empeg in a scooby, and there's a bit of a trick to getting it to fit right. It's one of the dashboards where the radio opening is slightly narrower than actual DIN size. Those who have done the work carefully have gotten extremely professional-looking installs. Perhaps some of those folks can chime in with links to photos of how they did it. There are also some scooby install photos in the install gallery at www.riocar.org if you wanted to take a look.
