I'm looking for an Empeg tuner (original or PCATS, doesn't matter) for a reasonable price (I'm located in Italy, so Europe has priority due to taxation issues). Other items I am interested in: a steering wheel remote (Kenwood?) and a home sled in order not to get crazy with rca cables everytime .

I owm an original tuner (anyway, they are the very same hardware design, apart the PCB and some cosmetic).. you can't belive how hard was to find one from USA (I'm a northern Italian, ciao connazionale!).. you will hardly find one in EU, IMHO.

PCATS seems unable to supply kits and original parts arey pretty rare.
One things for sure.. If my very own will fail (and found to be unrepairable) I will surely use a RS232 tuner (li trovi nei mercatini a 3 lire!), inject the audio via AUX and fool the player adding the relevant support to the excellent Hijack kernel.

Hijack has disabled the fake-tuner support in the latest releases, or am I wrong about that?
However, I already set up a high quality RCA connection on the glovebox (using insulated Phonocar cables), I was thinking about buying a used head unit with line output (or buying a broken one, eg. with cassette/cd player unuseful), finding a way to feed some 12v in it and then use the HU via aux port. a rs232 tuner is an alternative route but I would like RDS

The fake_tuner=1 option is still in Hijack. It went away for a couple of releases last year, but was then reinstated.

So, where could one find one of these RS232 FM tuners? I've never seen one, and my Google-Fu is weak today; I blame the eggnog.
