Rats. That's what I was going to guess. Honestly, you can't tell where the spammer's from with that grammer. I've recieved nearly identical email from a) a Mexican guy living in England, b) an unknown living in South Africa, and c) an unknown living in an unspecified location. And they all have the same product (insert product here) for sale that I'm bidding for on Ebay! However, going on nothing else but the "prosperity" thing, I'd say it's Asian. Korean, perhaps?

It's very similar to the sort of English used in the letters I get every morning from virtually ever African Country, offering to share the fortune of a relative who has been murdered by an oppressive regime, leaving millions idle in a bank account.....and I don't believe them either!

Is it me, or do neither of those sites still exist.

It's definitely East Asian. I'd guess Chinese.

(BTW, why is ``Oriental'' no longer PC? All it means is ``from/of the Orient'', where ``Orient'' just means ``East''. Are they offended because they're west of the US?)

I'm guessing Chinese. The IP address traces to an ISP in Houston and there is a huge Chinatown in Houston - so that's my guess.

A Chinese friend of mine described it to me as "Oriental" refers to inanimate objects so it is offending to refer to a person as Oriental. That's how he felt about it, at least.

I suppose that's understandable, if inaccurate:
Oriental (noun)
Date: 15th century
: a member of one of the indigenous peoples of the Orient
And I refer to Chinese urns and vases all the time. Does that mean that I should no longer call the people who created them Chinese?

People from the East aren't always ornamental*

I can't get to grips with this idea of oriental only being used to describe inanimate objects, and I can't find a dictionary definition that agrees with it. However in this PC world, I'll be cautious.

Well, I did some digging and the e-mail headers turn out not to be helpful. All I get is 216-24-105-69.access.naxs.com, which is somewhere in the U.S. The bad grammar just seems uniquely bad in ways I've never seen before. It sounds somewhere in between the crazy Africans and my black-sheep cousin from New York.
