Just got my new Mark II in the mail. Pretty exciting actually. Aside from the fact that the handle has several chips in it (eeek), its a beautiful unit. I even got Ethernet working with DHCP in pretty short order (I had to setup dhcpd on my linux box first, but I wanted to learn that anyway).

A couple questions:

1 - How can I verify how much space is available on the HD's? I purchased the 36GB unit, which supposedle is actually a 40GB unit. However, I can't seem to find anyway in Emplode 1.01 or otherwise to determine just exactly how much room I have left on those empty disks. ??

2 - Is there a way to cancel a sync that is in progress? The cancel button is greyed out on the dialog box.

Thanks!

Empode displays the space remaining in the right hand end of the status bar

Thanks Derek. I found it. Now one more question. When it says:

xxxx of 37952MB, does that mean that I have the 36GB unit or the 40GB unit (which they are supposed to be shipping now)??

It's a 40Gb. The difference in capacity is due to drive manufacturers specifying Gb as billion bytes, whereas we use (1<<30) as the size of a Gb (much like the difference between the label marking on your 3.5" HDDs and what your BIOS actually says the capacity is).

Ah, got it. So the 36GB drives were actually ...let me see here.... 36,000,000,000 bytes...

36B / 1024 / 1024 = 34332 MB
40B / 1024 / 1024 = 38146 MB

Sound about right? That would leave about 200MB on the OS partition I'm guessing....and would all add up. :-))))

ps - do you know if its possible to cancel a sync in progress without screwing anything up?

Thanks

No, it's not possible to cancel a sync in progress without screwing everything up. This is why we disabled the button.

In practice, you can kill emplode, reconnect a new instance, and after a disk check and a database rebuild, you'll find a bunch of empty playlists, and the file that was being written will probably be garbage.

Roger - not necessarily speaking for empeg

Ick, yucky. guess I better try not to ever get in a situation where I need to kill a sync in progress....

Any chance that this situation may be improved in 1.1 or the future?

MK2: 36gb
Tivo: 90gb
CPU: 120gb
...I think drive manufacturers love me!
