mcsimuss new poster Registered: 05/01/2003 Posts: 8	i've installed the latest release of Jemplode for Mac and it doesn't find my empeg player when I connect it to the computer via USB. And I couldn't find an answer to it in FAQs. Anyone had the same problem? What should I do?

mlord carpal tunnel Registered: 29/08/2000 Posts: 14484 Loc: Canada	I usually find I must hardcode the player's IP address onto the "options" for JEmplode. The broadcast method rarely works for me.. dunno why.

If so, Java's mediocre IP implementation doesn't provide a method of retrieving actual netmasks and jEmplode just hopes that it's 255.255.255.0, IIRC. _________________________ Bitt Faulk

mlord carpal tunnel Registered: 29/08/2000 Posts: 14484 Loc: Canada	Actually, I just (very!) recently changed the netmask to 255.255.0.0 from the original value of 255.0.0.0, and Jemplode seems to be finding the machines now. BUG: When using both "specific address" and "broadcast" (both checked), it lists the same player twice (the "specific" one). Cheers

If so, Java's mediocre IP implementation doesn't provide a method of retrieving actual netmasks and jEmplode just hopes that it's 255.255.255.0, IIRC. I guess they needed to support things other than just platforms with BSD sockets... but even then, I suppose there are different variants of those ioctls, and some require superpowers on some platforms. Bleah.

It is hiding them, it's always lying to you Yeah, that's sort of unfortunate that they're going about hiding them the wrong way.
