The custom logo shows up fine when using the unit from my desktop, but in the car it'll show up as a white screen. Anyone experienced this?

You can upload two logo's, one will be shown when the unit is on an ac-adapter (i.e. out of the car). The other when you have the unit docked in the car. I assume you forgot to upload them both and just did the one for out-of-car use. Read the instructions for the uploader again. If memory servers you just have to supply 2 *.bin files, though I bet Tony will tell you all about that when he reads this .

Cheers,
Hans

If you check out the programming forum, I just posted a new logo converter, and it forces you to do both logos (you can't leave the car one blank). It doesn't have a simple "click to upload" button yet, so you still have to do the command-line thing (just once, BTW), but it formats the files nicely and should do the trick for you.

Hm, I'm actually having the same problem, even though I exported the same file from home and car to the output.bin. Is there any difference in the files? I think I have to go back over this faq again in a bit more detail.

There is only one file which gets uploaded to the Empeg. It's a single file containing the data for both the home and car images. It should be created all at once, with both the home and car bitmaps being used as the source files. The file format is literally:

"empg"+homedata+cardata=output.bin

The resulting output.bin file should be 4100 bytes long. Then you send output.bin into memory location a000 in flash, and you're done.

For those running other OS's, I am going to (hopefully) get a .bin creator on my empeg.miniinfo.net website, to allow instant generation either with files on the BBS, or that you have uploaded just for the conversion. You will still need a way to send it to the empeg, but I'm sure a script could easially do what is needed under any Unix based OS.
