i have three, only use one at the moment (#155). the other two (#215, #303) i picked up as they were available and i wanted backup machines. they have been kept updated to version 2 os, but never used beyond that (might have dropped a few files on one to have something on it).

i am wondering if anyone out there is even interested in these machines anymore. i know the MK II's are nicer in many ways, but i have never really found the MK I i use to be any worse. actually i like it more than my MK II as the buttons and the dial on the MK II are chintzy at best.

i check these forums every six months or so pretty much because my machines work so well i never really have any questions. they do what i want and i am happy with them. fact is tho' that these two extras have been sitting in their boxes for years now doing nothing more than getting the occasional release update.

i am not looking to sell them, but i guess if the offer were right i might. as it is i paid about $1k us for each of the extra's when folks were upgrading to the MK II's. way more than they may be worth now, but worth it at the time to have the backups. wondering more if there is even interest in these old models anymore...

I think there is some nostalgic interest. I have considered buying one when people have posted them for sale in the past. Actually, I would be tempted to stick the facia of a MK1 on a MK2a as I still think the MK1s where better looking. I wonder if the display boards are pin compatible? Having said that I really doubt you would ever get more than about $300 for one.

On the plus side, these models have TUNERS built-in, which may be enough to offset the lower ram, no ethernet (USB net coming someday..), and no knob.

Cheers

Yeah, for me, seems the only major downside is no knob for changing volume. Yeah, there are some glitches with sound and unit construction or whatever, but it's still an empeg.

So, I wonder if a new user would buy one. It's a lower price than an MK2 or MK2a and it's still fully supported (there is v3 for MK1, right?).

Maybe put it on EBay. Start price at $300. Maybe a new user will see that others close for $500 and feel yours is a better deal. Just don't downplay it by saying "Aw, it's old, no knob, less ram, less surface mounted components, etc." It's still an empeg and still worth every cent. So, someone may pay it. Good luck.

Not yet. The alphas are a bit memory hungry for the 8mb Mark 1.

So no knob for changing the volume - just keep your finger on the left or right buttons for a few seconds :-)

My only "glitch" is remembering to save the radio tuner settings
