I gotta piece of Spyware that keeps changing my homepage to res://mshp.dll/index.html#10213. I've got Adaware and SpyKiller but between the both of them I can't get rid of it. Can anyone offer any advice?
Thank you in advance.

It could also be a virus/trojan and not necessarily spyware. Which would account for the ad-removal programs not catching it. I wish someone would make a hybrid virus scanner/adware remover program, so I don't have to have two programs that do the same job.
By the way, Googling for your exact term, " res://mshp.dll/index.html#10213 ", resulted in this page which details exactly how to remove it. Google is your friend.

Thank You! Have a cookie
I never thought to google it, and ironically that is my homepage that it keeps changing. (Is that really irony? I never understood the definition of that word. Where's Bitt when you need him?)

Yes, spyware can be a pain in the a**. Sometimes adaware or spybot search & destroy just cant find it... Then I found this little program most helpfull: HiJackThis. It dont remove the spyware but show the "hooks" that are used by spywares so that you easily can remove it. I have a little collection of links about spywares on http://www.2l8.com. /Fredrik

Sophos antivirus has started including spyware as viruses. Kudos to them. I only noticed when I got several calls at the office from users saying that sophos found a virus. Only it was Gator.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm glad though. I can't tell you how often I'll remove it from a computer at wor, only to see it is installed again the next day.

That really sucks. Content providers really hate Gator as well because it replaces the adverts that should be shown. All because people can't remember their passwords and click YES! to every single popup...

Tell me about it. Every time I se that fuggin weatherbug or the gator calendar app the hair on the back of my neck stands up. It almost pisses me off as much as idiots that install comet cursor. On purpose. When will people realize that things really aren't free? Ever? At least it costs them at least $75 for me to to "fix" their really slow computer by running spybot.

But do you have Bonzi as your buddy though?
My friend is one of the IT support staff for a fairly large stock brokerage in London and she's got untold amounts of crap on her work PC. Comet Cursor, Hotbar, Smiley Central... I've told her before that it's all spyware and not really something you should be running but she likes all that crap. It's worrying that she's supposed to be IT support though...

Is there something I can run that blocks comet cursor ?
I hate all that crap too and I have found comet cursor doesn't even ask if you want to install it. You just go to some morons website that uses it and I magically have some annoying cursor and have to uninstall it again.
I can't believe anyone who is a computer support person would install those programs that is sad.

When will people realize that things really aren't free? Ever? That's only true for the type of people who have these problems. For the rest of us there's Weather Watcher, Adaware, AVG, and all types of free stuff. I've been trying to tell everyone I know about Weather Watcher. I love that program. It's everything that awful Weatherbug isn't.

Have you tried Spybot Search & Destroy. It tends to pick up things that Ad-Aware misses. Best of all, it's free (including definition upgrades).

OOh, AVG totally farked my computer. Instead of cleaning files that were infected, it just quarantines them. This became an issue when it quarrantined explorer.exe amond other vital windoze files.
I second Spybot Search and Destroy. The immunize function works quite well. The only issue is that there is no automatic way of running it.

You're welcome!
I'm sorry you had problems with AVG, Lectric, but I'd have to say that's you're computer. I've installed it on at least 8 systems personally, and nobody has had any problems with it.
As for Spybot, I simply do not like that program as a day-to-day adware cleaner. First off, it's definitely not an attractive or even friendly program. But my main issue with it is that it simply feels too invasive. I mean, does the company accept every single report that users send in? When the program starts cleaning out shortcuts in video game directories that do nothing but take you to previews of the company's other games, I just feel like it might be grabbing too much. I regularly see files it flagged that I do not want removed, and I don't want to go through everything and babysit a program like this. Adaware has never, as far as I've seen, flagged a file that I wanted to keep. Maybe it's not finding everything, but it's finding enough to keep me happy.
I did, however, use both Adaware and Spybot on my girlfriend's father's PC. He had about 600 items that needed to be cleaned (in addition to 61 viruses).

Sort of. I installed it AFTER I had a virus. The thing was that it just moved any infected files, rather than cleaning them. Needless to say, this is a bad thing.

That's odd. I'm able to delete things from my machine.
And oops, I hate when I type "you're" instead of "your." I'm sorry, Bitt!!

Not necessarily, I love AVG and use it on all my machines. I built a machine for my fiance and it simply caused problems, funky windows errors and such.

Well, I used some trojan scans, virus scans, and tried the google page to no avail.
So now I'm back online after a complete reformat and reinstall. Not too difficult with my external 80GB hard drive and now I can say my system is running smoother than ever.
Thanks for the help though.
