I have downloaded the v3 Alpha7 and I have to say...Great Job guys. I have a question though, is there a way to have the songs crossfade at all times? I would like the fade to happen seemlessly from song to song without having to press the forward button to the next song. If it can be done, please let me know. Thanks!

haha... alright, so it is a bug, and not something I am missing.

Thanks Tony.

Odd, it seems to be working in both cases for me (manual forward skip and natural track-to-track progression). 3.0a7, crossfade set to 0.7s. 99% of my mp3s are lame 192kbit CBR.

Not sure what Tony is talking about, but the crossfade does indeed work. Likely what you are seeing is that the player is crossfading the silence at the beginning and ends of some tracks. When skipping songs it seems to work better because there is audible sound in the middle.

Try setting the crossfade value to 5 seconds and see how it goes. I like having that much crossfade myself.

IIRC, one of the old Winamp cossfades and possibly the built in one these days had some smarts that looked for silence at the beginning and end of tracks and crossfaded the preset time plus the silence resulting in a true no gap output.

The xmms crossfade module also has a gapkiller setting. I do like that, but it had some bug at some point.

Nothing more fun than getting all of xmms-crossfade, the xmms normalization plugin and liveice all working together.

Try setting the crossfade value to 5 seconds and see how it goes.

I would if it would go that high. It appears that it caps out at 3 seconds.

I would, but the crossfade is max'd at 3 seconds.

Alpha 3 let you use a 5 second crossfade. Alpha 5 prolly also did, but I didn't use it much because of the "enhanced stereo separation always on" bug. I guess they tweaked Alpha 7, to only allow 3 seconds? Oh well. As long as it's smooth and cosistent, it's all good.

One problem I had with both Alpha 3 and 5, is that they wouldn't crossfade OGG files. Not sure if this is related to what you're seeing, or if it's been addressed in this release.

As Diznario said, it was 5 seconds in alpha 5 and prossibly alpha 6. Even with alpha 7 mine was still on 5 seconds.

So you could downgrade to alpha 5, set 5 seconds and then upgrade to alpha 7. As long as you don't touch the setting it will stay on 5 seconds.

There is a bug here. The crossfade "slider bar" for want of a better word tries to run off the end.

Ahhhh... That's a clever trick. But I don't think I'll do it quite yet...

I could be wrong here, but I think the maximum is now 3 instead of 5, because the developers thought that 5 seconds was a bit too long for some reason. Why exactly they thought that I don't know, but I'm guessing it's memory related. Or, lack there of.

In other words, 5 seconds probably causes problems, so they lowered it. That's my guess.

And personally, I'll take stability over increased crossfade time.

As long as crossfade works smoothly, it's all good.

I'm pretty sure that crossfading works with ogg-files, I had to turn it off yesterday to enjoy my new gapless-oggs. :-)

Alpha 3 let you use a 5 second crossfade.
Alpha 3's dialog box went up to 5. This was an oversight; values above 3 were never implemented.

For some reason, I find this incredibly amusing.

Well actually, crossfading sort of half works with ogg files. I can't remember which way it is, but it only fades one direction when using oggs. (It either only fades the start of an ogg, or it only fades the end of an ogg.) So in some cases, it actually seems to work cool, especially if you're mixing mp3 and ogg files.
