I'm getting ready to put the empeg into a 2002 Honda Civic LX, and am contemplating getting a matching colored lens. Problem is, I can't really tell which one I'd want.

To my eyes, the dash lights look somewhere between red and amber, but I'm red-green blind, so that doesn't help at all. I'm wondering if anyone out there that has an empeg and a Civic (or even knows a Civic) can tell me if the Civic matches any of their faceplate colors.

A couple of old posts have said that the red one works great, but I know that the dash was changed from the 2001 to the 2002, so I don't know if the color now is the same as the color then. Actually that would be a good question to ask. Does anyone know if the color on a 2002+ civic dash is the same on slightly less recent civics, specifically like the 99 Si in this post.

If no one knows, I could just try both, but money's tight and I'd rather buy it right the first time. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since you're red/green color blind, and wouldn't be able to tell the aesthetic difference between the lenses, then I would say to get the most readable lens rather than the one that matches your dash. Go with factory green or smoke.

Heck, I'd say go with green or smoke no matter what car you owned and even if you weren't color blind. Readability is more important than color matching in my book.

Click here to see just how unreadable a red lens is.

...although I've been tempted to get a dash kit for my Focus to change it to match the empeg. Actually, I should see how well the green lens matches the stock Focus dash.

Thats what I did with my car, all of my interior lights are or will be blue with the exception of the lights that light up the Gauge needles, those are UV.

Blue reverse indiglo gauges
Blue LED instrument panel lights
Blue LED Glove box and ashtray lights
Blue LED window and door control panel
Blue LED dome light
Hidden Blue light rope accents (light shows through the gaps of the glove box, and the bottom of the dash)
Blue LED in trunk with hidden blue light rope to accent the amps, cap, and Sub.

Still need:

a light up kit for empeg but I want blue LED's with silver (not chrome) translucent buttons so that the buttons are silver in daylight (to match my Gauge face, steering wheel remote, and AC control knobs) and light up a soft blue at night.

Two pillar gauges (silver face, blue lights/numbers) Volt meter and most likely oil pressure gauges

Trust me, I've been dieing to but it's not finished yet.

I guess I can take a shot of what I have now, if i can find a good digicam, the digicamcorder I have access to takes crappy shots, especially in the dark.

Edit: oops, looks like you meant adavidw's dash. hee, hee.

I can post digicam pictures, but not until Saturday, as I'm out of town right now. Actually I do have pictures of the car on this computer, but they're actually of the accident where it was almost totalled. None of the dash, though.

I do like Tony's thinking with the readability, but my wife still has this confused notion that it's her car, so I'm trying to appease her eyes even if mine don't work. I feel like if amber was a good match for the dash, it would be readable enough, but red is probably just plain out.

From the lens pictures it looks like amber might match, but that's all dependent on whether filener's lenses are the same amber, and whether my computer and the photo match real colors. And again, I'm using my bum eyes to make that judgement.

Have your wife choose by looking at the lens compare chart. She can decide what color she likes. Make sure she sees what the readability is like in the sunlight pictures.
